Could This Be The Summer of Maggie Gyllenhaal?

Since the premieres of both The Honorable Woman and Lenny Abrahamson’s Frank, Maggie Gyllenhaal has become an It girl all over again.

**Maggie Gyllenhaal’**s two most recent projects could not be more different. The Honorable Woman is a critically acclaimed new SundanceTV miniseries with le Carré–esque undertones in which Gyllenhaal plays the British-Israeli scion of a weapons fortune, who is funding charity projects in the West Bank. Frank is the outré festival circuit darling about a band of experimental musicians (including Gyllenhaal’s slightly unhinged character) who find haphazard fame at SXSW. The only true connecting factor between the two is that they’re both excellent and fueled by Gyllenhaal’s equally excellent performances: It’s enough to proclaim 2014 the Summer of Maggie. With coinciding press tours for both The Honorable Woman and Frank keeping the consummate working Brooklyn mom extra busy—and in several outfits per day—Gyllenhaal’s go-to color scheme has emerged as seasonally appropriate whites (or neutrals, at least). Consistently grown-up-looking while retaining a certain freshness, her looks are considered, but never precious. After breaking onto the scene more than ten years ago, Gyllenhaal has demonstrated that she can be an It girl all over again.
