After the Schiaparelli spring 2024 couture show—which featured (among other things) a motherboard dress and a robot baby—we wondered who would be the first star to wear a piece from the buzzy collection. Now we’ve found our answer: Carey Mulligan.

While the actor may not be done with the awards circuit for her role in Maestro, she’s already onto her next project, promoting her latest film Spaceman, an Adam Sandler-fronted movie based on the book Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. Mulligan hit red carpet at the German film festival, Berlinale, rocking look 26, originally worn on the runway by Irina Shayk: a black strapless dress with exquisite nude drapery that extends from the back. While it was originally paired with a nude heel with a pointy, metallic toe, Mulligan styled the dress with a simple black pump. Rightfully keeping the attention on the couture, she kept jewelry to a minimum, too, only wearing a single ring and stud earrings.

Mulligan has stuck to her sartorial guns at Berlinale. At the film’s photo call earlier in the day, she wore a simple black suit, complete with razor-sharp shoulders and a cigarette pant. The looks are in keeping with her awards season M.O.: sophisticated, sleek, and neutral. But clearly, this Schiaparelli couture number is in a league of its own. Will she manage to outdo herself for the Oscars?
