A mature Royal Poinciana tree (Delonix regia) shows off its large bright-red flowers that bloom from springtime through summer in the tropical Hawaiian Islands, USA. Also called a Flamboyant tree or a Flame tree, its flower colors can vary widely from deep scarlet to golden yellow and every range of orange in between. Native to Madagascar, the Royal Poinciana was introduced to Hawaii in the mid-19th Century and has since become a popular ornamental tree. It can grow as tall as 40 feet (12 meters) and can spread its branches with fern-like leaves equally as wide.
