HARDENBERGIA violacea

Description

Evergreen climbing plant native to Australia. It can grow more than 3 meters tall. It shows flexible and woody stems which are able to intertwine to any support. Leaves are lanceolate and leathery, dark green and with well-marked veins. At the beginning of spring, the foliage is the backdrop to a rich and wonderful blooming of numerous drooping spikes and small flowers, usually blue-violet but sometimes white or pink and with a green center.

Suggestions

Ensure a sunny position as well as a fresh and drained soil to improve plant development and quality. It tolerates drought, but in summer it benefits from sporadic irrigations. It doesn't tolerate long and deep frosts. After blooming regular pruning improves the thickening of the plant. It's ideal to cover fences, railings and bowers; it is good even if grown in medium sized containers.
