The SA Police force and Protective Security Officers work side by side in critical roles protecting our state, but with very differing levels of power.

Protective Security Officers maintain the security of Government infrastructure, high risk assets, and the community.

They may carry guns, but they have no power to enforce the law.

Protective Security Officers wear a white uniform, which is starkly different from the navy uniform SA Police officers wear.

But discussions are currently underway to change the colour of the uniform for Protective Security Officers to match the Police.

Protective Security Officers could wear a navy uniform, and look just like the Police.

Is it a good idea or will it cause confusion?

Spence Denny spoke to Rick Sarre, Adjunct Professor of Law and Criminal Justice at the University of South Australia, who could see how an increased appearance of police presence would be a positive thing to the community, despite the confusion it may cause.
