Why make an ASCII Art Gallery?

* Well, can you imagine a better way to exploit the incredible graphical powers of the WWW than to create low-quality JPEGs of a few choice ASCII art doodles and imbed them in a web page?

* I hope so.

* I sometimes have difficulty finding more than one good item to put in a bulleted list.

* However, having four poor items makes everything seem better.

How did you get the art to look so bad?

* Excellent question. You are obviously smarter than cardboard.

* The original idea was to take some ASCII art (stolen from other people), print it out and then scan it back in again (and then, optionally, run some OCR software on it).

* I changed my mind.

* Instead I tried to create JPEG images of the art such that the text files were about the same size as the graphics files. This meant saving the JPEGs at the lowest allowable quality.

What else is out there?

* Now showing in stunning ASCIIMATION: Star Wars!

* Through the magic of ASCIIMac you can transform your boring graphical Mac display into vivid life-like ASCII! Must be seen to be believed.

* Do you want to send a picture of your new nephew to all your friends? Rather than sending a bulky graphics file, convert it into compact, beautiful ASCII art, using Email Effects. Reviewers are saying "Email Effects is to ASCII art what Photoshop is to graphic designers... a high-powered tool for mega cool images."
