World-renowned motivational speaker Alvin Day had the attention of everyone in attendance as he addressed an Empowerment Breakfast at Knutsford Court Hotel in St Andrew last week.

Day, who drew on his own experience as a child, encouraged persons to cultivate the habit of thinking positively instead of being daunted by their circumstances.

"There's a distinct difference between winning and being a winner, because when you are a winner, even in the moments when you lose, losing is just for the moment, but you are still a winner," he said.

Kandi-Lee Crooks Smith, principal of the Allman Town Primary School in Kingston, the patron of the event, expressed gratitude for the contribution her school received.

PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

Crooks Smith, the LASCO-Ministry of Education Principal of the Year for 2015-2016, collected a cheque for $100,000, which will go towards the school's Technology Intensive Literacy Programme.

"I am proud to say that I am a product of the Allman Town community," she said.

"I was blessed in numerous ways by a number of persons and I thank God that there were people who saw my potential and invested in my life. Allman Town Primary School is being given much, and from whom much is given much is required," she said.

In addition to the Allman Town Primary School, the Empowerment Breakfast was held in aid of the Optimist Club of St Matthew's Kingston and the St Matthew's Anglican Church, which are also based in Allman Town.

The Empowerment Breakfast, held last Thursday, received support from The Optimist Club, NCB Foundation, SURETIME Emergency Medical Services Ltd, RJR Communications Group, Sretlaw Media Company Limited, Pepsi, Pow Social Media and The Gleaner.
