March 19, 2024I'm typically quite the critic when it comes to technology; my reviews are honest, often blunt, with no room for fluff. With the Galaxy Z Fold4, I find myself in new territory. The sleek profile in choices like the rich Burgundy or the understated Graygreen offers not just a visual treat but a statement of style and sophistication.
Opening the Z Fold4 unveils a fluid universe powered by a formidable Octa-Core processor, where every command is executed with an almost thought-like precision. It's here that speed meets spectacle on the Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens, with their lush visuals and adaptive refresh rates making every interaction vivid and smooth.
The S Pen compatibility transforms the Fold4 from a communication tool into a canvas of creativity, inviting me to jot down ideas as they come. It's a liberating feeling, knowing that such power lies right in my pocket.
Photography on this device has a professional edge, whether it's the sharpness of a 50MP shot or the grandeur of 8K video. And with storage up to 1TB supported by a hefty 12GB of RAM, 'running out of space' is a phrase best left in the past.
5G and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity ensure I'm always in the fast lane of the information superhighway, and the comprehensive range of Gear support, including the Galaxy Buds2 Pro and Galaxy Watch5, seamlessly integrate into the ecosystem.
The Z Fold4 isn't just another smartphone; it's a trailblazer that redefines the category. This device isn't a leap into the next generation of smartphones; it's the standard that sets it.
Disappointing

December 10, 2023My review of this phone is my honest opinion, I have had Samsung phones for years and love the brand. The Fold 4, however, has been the most disappointing phone I have ever had from Samsung.
Design:
The overall design of the phone is nice and definitely has a premium feel to it. The spine (or whatever its known as) however is extremely weak. One morning I knocked it off my bed side unit onto the floor, less than a meter off the ground and the impact of that put a small dent in that spine. The concesquence of that is that the phone no longer opens up flat. This is not a massive deal, but the ripple effect of that is what has spoilt this phone for me.
On the inside screen after about 10 months of taking it in and out of my pocket dust slowly started to make its way under the screen protector causing air bubbles to start. I contacted Samsung to see what I can do and with these phones I found out you get one free screen protector replacement, I just needed to take it to a service centre, so I made the 25 mile trip to my closest one. Upon arriving at the store I handed the phone over and was told the replacement couldn't be done. The reason being that because of that small dent causing the phone to not open flat the machine they use to replace the protector wouldn't work. I enquired how much it would cost to repair the spine and was told it would be an eye watering £565! I left the store and didn't proceed. A couple of months later and the air bubble has now spread down the length and partly across the right side of the inside screen which has made that screen practically unusable as it keeps pressing things, disrupting what I am doing. I did ask about removing the protector but apparently that comes with its own risks of permanently damaging the screen.
The camera of the phone Is fantastic, compared to my previous phone (Note 10+ ) there Is a clear noticeable upgrade.
The software of the phone performs OK, I do find that every so ofter the phone does lag and then all of a sudden catches up. When I notice this happening I restart the phone and that clears it for a while.
Overall the Fold series has been a major disappointment to me. I have got this phone on finance so I am sadly stuck with it for another 23 months, I definitely won't he having one again and will switch back to the S series. I don't recommend this phone to anyone unless you are prepared to take a risk that could severely cost you.

December 20, 2023I knew that there could be problem with this phone but trusting Samsung and its customer service, I took a risk - to have the most expensive phone on the market - since there is a brand that stands behind it.
Then as you know the phone is not dust proof, and if try to use it like your old phone - its not gonna work. It is designed to be used in laboratory, please advertise as such!.
First the phone stopped opening fully (after a month!) , you could hear a noise when it was opening. Then it developed a horizontal line on the big screen, you can read on-line its common for those phones - but they suggest its ok to go to samsung they will repair it under warranty as its known problem. I left the phone at Service in Prague, they were ok it will be uder warranty, then day later I receive pictures of the sides of the phone that its mechanical damage, no joke Sherlock, I use the samsung slim standing cover but its not on the back/hinges so yes you will have some dents/scratches, I mean which phone doesnt?.
They denied warranty, and cashed 3.8K pln/22K CZK for repair, replacing basically everything in the phone. And said, if you agree with the quote, your data will remain intact!, so I just go ok ok, chill down I will pay.
Again its not my problem the phone is not dustproof, and I got the most expensive phone on the market, and Im buying just samsung devices, so little bit of customer service would not hurt!.
After my galaxy watch5 pro (if you want to use features that it was designed for, battery dies after few hours ) or overheats. Plus the amazing samsung service on my Fold4, and the experience with really awesome battery on my Galaxy S20 (did 20 online tutorials and still since brand new it never lasted a day), I'm really upset and done with Samsung.
Planned Obsolescence - disappointment

March 7, 2023I pre-ordered the zFlip4 in early August 2022, thrilled to defend my Samsung product against Apple- friends and family, and received it in late September 2022. Previously I was a lifelong iPhone user however I am possibly returning, as my experience has been inadequate. As a first-time Samsung user, my first impression has been detrimental to my consideration of purchasing any other Samsung products.
I will admit, initially, i too was immersed by the intriguing product, as i had taken interest in the flip line ever since the zFlip3 was released. Aside from this complication, the phone itself was satisfactory, slightly fragile with a horrible battery life (lasting shorter compared to my 4year old iPhone with a 73% maximum capacity)
My zFlip4 was merely slightly over 5 months old when I was forced to use my old iPhone 11. The zFlip4 had failed to outlive my 4year old iPhone. I woke up as per usual and recognised a black LCD line across the fold of my zFlip4, which increased in size the more i opened/closed the phone. Horrified, I checked if my phone was still functioning, only to register the fact that the top half of my screen was unresponsive to touch.
I contacted Samsung, who sent my phone to Icure for an 'inspection' to inform me of assumed knowledge, which was priced at $66. I was not informed of the inspection price beforehand. I was absolutely appalled by the price of the repair. $540 ( reduced to $200 if you preordered the product however I assume those reading these reviews intend to purchase the product). I acknowledge and recognise that modern flip phones are "fairly" recent and repair prices may be costly however I did not expect the repair to be priced at half the cost of an iPhone, or a third of the original product. Nevertheless, I believe the price is absurd for just an LCD screen replacement. I question whether this price is coherent as I do not believe I am at fault due to a MINUSCULE "dent on the edge of the bezel". If this was the case, the issue should have appeared when the dent was made, which could not have been overnight as my phone was left untouched, unless the product was made to deteriorate rapidly. I am still a student, studying, and it is distressing to cough up such a sum of money unexpectedly as I have spent all my savings to purchase the actual product itself.
My research conducted discovered that this complication was admittedly common amongst previous zflip3 users link:
https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-z-fold-z-flip/z-flip-3-phone-with-black-line-across-screen-at-fold-crease-of/td-p/5210802
This exhibits how Samsung has not acknowledged this issue revolving around zFlip3 users, which should have been prevented and established in advance of releasing the zFlip4. If you are interested in purchasing the zFlip4, you may as well purchase the zFlip3 as they are practically identical in features and share the same "issues".
My intentions of critically reviewing this product are due to the fact that I would have appreciated reading a review similar to this, instead of numerous positive reviews of promoting consumers who have owned the product for merely 2 weeks, before I purchased the zFlip4. It is devastating to say I now regret my choices and should have chosen the iPhone 14 instead. Moral of the story, steer away from the zFlip phones.
