Fire alarm system for awakening a sleeping person
The present invention relates to an automatic device for fire alarm, more exactly a fire alarm system for sleeping persons.
Today there are many different fire alarms systems which warn incipient, progressive fires by means of smoke detectors, light detectors, heat detectors, etc. These forms of fire alarm systems are wholly or partly installed in homes, hotels and other places where people sleep or stay. The main purpose of such systems is to warn people in a building as early as possible enabling them to escape away from a possible death trap that can be created around them.
Despite this form of security in buildings where people stay, situations may occur where people are not able to get away in time and dies of smoke poisoning or fire. This is often due to the fact that the alarm system cannot manage to warn the persons in the building in time or not at all. Often people have been lying in bed, on the sofa or in the chair sleeping without noticing the alarms indicating danger from the alarm systems, being visual or acoustic signals respectively.
Acoustic signals have a drawback that if the building is located in a noisy area or work is going on outside, the persons may be using sound suppressing means in order to be able to sleep or even sleeping tablets. Both reduce the effect of the sound signals.
There is therefore a need for a fire warning system which not only handles visual or acoustic signals, but also handles another form for warning which easier wake up people being in deep sleep and therefore cannot hear or see the signals given. This is achieved by a fire alarm system according to present invention such as defined in the features of the claims.
This invention relates to a fire alarm system for sleeping persons. The purpose is to awake sleeping persons by fire alarm where acoustic and visual means are not sufficient due to being in deep sleep, other load sounds or technical failure in existing warning units. The area of use is in the immediate proximity to beds in public and private rooms which are used for resting/sleeping.
The present invention will be described further below in connection with some exemplary embodiments and with reference to the drawing, where figure 1 shows a schematic view of the invention.
In a first embodiment the invention is mounted and connected to an existing alarm system. Present invention comprises, in all its embodiments, of a control panel 1 and a liquid container 7 with attached nozzles 8. On the control panel there is at least one input 2 for connecting signals from other alarm sources, which may be locally in
the room or be attached to a larger central alarm system. A signal on the at least one input 2 on the control panel 1 will activate the control panel. By activating the control panel a message will be shown on a display 10 on the control panel 1 and a visual 5 and acoustic 11 signal will be given locally from the control panel. A signal at one of the inputs 2, will activate a time delay 9 so the person(s) will have a possibility to stop the activation of the pressure tank by pressing an acknowledgement button 3. Should the alarm not be acknowledged within the preprogrammed time delay 9, a signal will be directed to the water container 7 which will result in liquid being squirted in the face of the person(s) who maybe sleeping/resting.
In order to safeguard that the invention will function even under a power failure, a backup battery is installed which will give sufficient power supply to the unit in a pre-defined period of time. When voltage/current in this battery drops below a certain value, a lamp 4 will start to light indicating that the battery should be replaced. Should the invention be activated by a local alarm which is connected to the control panel, it is possible to make the control panel transmit an alarm signal to another unit or another alarm central. Further it can be connected to a calling unit which will get in touch with a watchman service, fire brigade, neighbours etc. with a preprogrammed message. In another embodiment the invention can be used as a stand-alone unit at a place where there is no form for warning system. The control panel and the water container can be in one unit, as well as the sensors activating the invention, for instance smoke alarms. Any existing sensors may be connected manually, either with cables or wireless.
Claims
1. Fire alarm system, characterized in that it comprises a control panel (1) and a liquid container (7) with at least one attached nozzle (8), which are connected together so that the control panel (1) will activate the liquid container (7) with attached nozzle(s) (8), which when activated will squirt liquid on a sleeping/resting person(s) with the intention to awake them.
2. Fire alarm system according claim 1, characterized in the control panel (1) further comprises at least one point of connection (2) for an external activating signal, a display (10) to show messages, a loudspeaker (11) for sounding an acoustic signal, an acknowledgement button (3) in order to stop the process in progress, an indicator (4) for low voltage/current level of a backup battery and a visual indicator (5) to indicate that the unit is activated.
