Description

METHOD OF PRODUCING SEEDS WITH HEAVY HARVEST AND DISEASE RESISTANCE BY TREATING WITH ZEOLITE AND METHOD OF CULTIVATING LEGUMINOUS PLANTS BY USING SAID
SEEDS
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a method of improved harvest of annual plants like soybean, more particularly, to 1) a method of producing high-grade plant seeds with qualities of superb yield and disease resistance while activating potential by treating seeds with zeolite and 2) a method of cultivating leguminous plants that can substantially improve the yield per unit area by performing the early seeding, transplanting and topping in the growing process.
DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART There were problems with critical environmental pollution of soil and rivers as well as various side effects because all kinds of fertilizer or agricultural chemicals were in use to increase the yield and prevent diseases so far. There were also issues such that plants did not grow so well without the use of fertilizers and pesticides, that the yield drastically decreased and that the fiber of plants were too tough and not palatable.
Zeolites are natural minerals that have a porous structure with regularly spaced tunnels (diameter: a couple of A). About 40 kinds of zeolite minerals are currently known in nature. Zeolites have been in use as a catalyst, an absorbent, or a separation agent up to now, and are being applied as a soil conditioner utilizing the good permeability to water and air, and cation exchange ability, or as an absorbing remover of agricultural chemicals to prevent environmental pollution of ground water and so forth. Korean Laid-open Patent Gazette No. 1999-66670 discloses a method of growing plants by using natural zeolite. However, this gazette discloses only the method of scattering zeolite on the plants after it is powdered. It does not suggest a method of Improving on seeds such as beans, but fails to mention its effect at all. From this viewpoint, these inventors hit upon an idea that natural zeolite contains a variety of minerals (SiO2, Te2O2, Al2O2, TiO2, CaO, MgO, K2O, Na2O, P2O5) and that it could activate the potential of seeds for superb high yield and disease tolerance as a results of its strong absorptive power and oxygen supplying activities as a porous mineral, and came to complete the invention after they found that seeds like common bean treated with liquefied zeolite are upgraded to high quality seeds with characteristics of high yield and disease tolerance.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The objective of the present invention is to provide a method of producing high-grade plant seeds with characteristics of superb high yield and disease tolerance by treating common bean seeds with liquefied zeolite (zeolite solution) and so forth.
Likewise, another objective ofthe present invention is to provide a method of cultivating leguminous plants that can substantially augment the amount of harvest per unit area by early seeding, transplanting and topping in the growing process. The present invention teaches a method of producing high-grade plant seeds with qualities of high yield and disease resistance by treating annual plant seeds with liquefied zeolite in order to activate their potential.
This method of producing plant seeds may be applied to bean, wheat, corn, barley, pumpkin, pepper etc as annual plants. In the method of producing plant seeds according to the present invention, liquefied zeolite means that it is liquefied by dissolving natural zeolite in water and it is desirable that you extract the zeolite substance by heating water to a boil with natural zeolite. This zeolite solution functions to activate potential such as high yield, disease tolerance, purity, and fruiting ability.
In the method of producing plant seeds according to the present invention, it is desirable to include the step of disinfecting said plant seeds with Carbofuran. Carbofuran is an agent that works as a soil insecticide, while insecticide directly treats soil in general, but the present invention is different in disinfection by directly using insecticide on seeds. This Carbofuran inhibits pathogenic bacteria in soil from damaging seeds.
The bean seeds harvested from plant seeds of the present invention have high yield. However, we should again use the method of activating potential utmost based on the present invention to maintain the superb high yield and disease tolerance achieved with original seeds.
The present invention provides a method of growing plants(transplanting cultivation) with these harvest-increasing characteristics that sows the produced seeds through said method 15 - 20 days earlier than the optimum season for seeding, transplants in about 20 days from the seeding date. Consequently, said method further comprises topping for the first time in about 20 days from the transplanting date and repeating it for the second time in about 20 days from the first topping. Likewise, the present invention offers a growing method of plants(Direct Seeding and Growing Method) with these harvest-increasing characteristics that sows the produced seeds through said method about 15 - 20 days earlier than the normal best seeding time and pinches once in about 50 days from the seeding date.
In the method of cultivation in accordance with the present invention, it is possible to perform a method of seeding bean, what is such as spot seeding, line sowing, broadcast planting coming after plowing and rotary tilling, and then in case of bean, it is possible to sow just one seed at each spot unlike seeding 3 - 4 seeds at each spot. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the required amount of seeds up to one thirds or one quarter.
In the growing method in accordance with the present invention, it is preferable that a planting distance (spacing density) is in the range of 40cm - 100cm by plant, which is twice that of the 20cm - 40cm used for ordinary beans. This distance is required since the yield by plant increases maximum up to 10 times.
In the method of cultivation in accordance with the present invention, seeding timing is desirable to be earlier by around 15 - 20 days than the optimum season of seeding. It is because the growing method of the present invention needs processes such as transplanting and topping unlike the cultivation of ordinary beans. To perform the transplanting and topping, it requires additional growing period of 15 - 20 days or so. In the method of cultivation in accordance with the instant invention, it is preferable to apply herbicide to the cultivation field one time each before seeding and after harvesting. Thus, it is possible to harvest the high-quality plants without any application of herbicide during the period the plants are standing.
Even in case of field plants other than beans, it is possible to raise without application of herbicide while plants are standing by weeding in this way.
Hereinafter, a method of producing seeds with superb yield and disease resistance and a method of growing the seeds with superb high yield and pesticide- free in more detail will be explained. As these examples of implementation just illustrate the use of this invention, you must not believe that they limit the invention scope.
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
[Embodiment 1]
Production of seeds with super high yield/disease tolerance (1) Liquefy by heating up to boil after putting zeolite which is a kind of mineral into clean water.
(2) Take out ordinary bean seeds after soaking for about one hour in the cooled zeolite water liquefied as above. (3) Disinfect the above-mentioned seeds with liquid made of regular doses of Carbofuran, adhesive, colorant and extender diluted in clean water.
[Embodiment 2] Cultural practice of super high yield/pesticide-free beans (Cultural
Practice by Transplanting)
(1) Apply the herbicide to the cultivation field of beans once before 15 - 20 days of bean seeding.
(2) Sow the super high yield seeds that were produced through the method of Embodiment 1 15 - 20 days earlier than geographic optimum seedtime of ordinary bean in the cultivation field that was treated with herbicide as in the step (1). At this time, sow just one seed at each spot unlike the ordinary beans (sow 3 - 4 seeds at each spot).
(3) Transplant in around 20 days from the seeding date, keep 40cm - 100cm of spacing by plant, twice as far as that of ordinary beans (20 - 40cm) when you plant for good.
(4) Pinch 4 - 5 bean leaves off for the first time in about 20 days from the transplanting date.
(5) Pinch for the second time in about 20 days from the first pinching date. (6) Harvest in about 3 months and 15 days (about 105 - HOdays) from the second pinching date.
(7) Apply herbicide once to the cultivation field at an appropriate time after harvest of beans. By doing this, it is possible to have a super high yield of high- quality beans in the next cultivation of beans without application of agricultural chemicals while plants are standing with just one time of herbicide application to the cultivation field before seeding as above in step (1). [Embodiment 3] Cultural practice of super high yield/pesticide-free beans (Direct Sowing)
(1) Apply weed killer once to the cultivation field of beans before 15 - 20 days of seeding. (2) Sow super high yield seeds that were produced in the step (1) in the cultivation field treated by weedicide as above step (1), before about 15 - 20 days of geographic optimum season of ordinary bean seeding. Keep 40cm - 100cm of spacing by plant as twice as that of ordinary beans (20 - 40cm). And it is desirable to sow just one seed at each spot unlike the ordinary beans (sow 3 - 4 seeds at each spot). (3) Pinch buds off in about 1 month and 20 days (about 50 days) from the direct sowing date.
(4) Harvest in about 4 months (about 120 days) from the last pinching.
(5) Apply herbicide once to the cultivation field at an appropriate time after harvest of beans. By growing this way, you can have a super high yield of high- quality beans in the next cultivation of beans without application of agricultural chemicals while plants are standing with just one time of herbicide application to the cultivation field before seeding as above in step (1).
[Comparison test of yield] In order to test the effect of yield increment of beans according to the invention, after test cultivation in the 30 farms of Kyunggi-do province in Korea in 2000, its yield result was compared to the yield from farms at which grew average ordinary beans in '88-'90 and that from the experiment station (" Series Course for New Farmer - Mysterious Value and New Growing Method of our own Beans"). The results are shown in table 1. [Table 1] Yield comparison between this invented beans and ordinary beans
Figure imgf000008_0001
As shown in the above table 1, when you grow beans with both technologies of seed production and cultivation based on the present invention, the yield by plant can be maximum 300g or as much as 10 times of 30g, and maximum 1,000kg per 10a (surface area) as much as 5 times of that made in the existing cultural practice (around 100kg - 250kb per 10a). The difference of yield increase rate per plant and surface area is due to the fact that the plants are about 2 times further apart than that of the ordinary bean plants.
[Comparison Test in the Disease Tolerance]
Extremely variable disease and pest injury occurs in case of growing ordinary beans. The frequency and kind of injury are so different by cultivation region and even the field and frequency of pesticide application and amount are also different. That is why it is too difficult to compare and analyze in reality. However, it was found a decrease in the disease incidence per plant by about 70% compared to that of ordinary seeds in the 30 farms that grew the seeds from the invention. It can however be inferred from the fact not only that the seeds treated by the present invention improved in disease tolerance, but also that plants wider spaced were better ventilated and received more solar radiation with the planting method ofthe present invention.
INDUSTRIAL AVAILABILITY
As described above in detail, it is possible to improve ordinary seeds like beans by treating with zeolite to be high-quality seeds with super high yield and disease tolerance and redouble the bean yield by cultural practice using earlier seeding, transplanting and pinching. Moreover, according to the present invention, the mass production of safe agricultural products, pesticide-free and of high quality is allowed by producing high-quality seeds. The bean seeds produced by using this technology by far excel the merits that GMO has, such as very large increase in the yield, tolerance to disease and pest injury, enhancement of taste and quality, without any genetic modification, therefore there is no controversial issue such as the danger of GMO at all.
And, it is possible to produce safe agricultural products by farming without application of herbicide while plants are standing when you raise a variety of field crops including beans according to this invention, and reduce the required amount of seed down to one thirds or one fourth.
It is also possible to contribute to the income doubling of farms due to reduction of farming expenses for agricultural chemicals, labor etc and the production of agricultural products with high quality and super high yield, and to the reduction of consumer's food cost by mass production of safe agricultural products free of pesticide and of high quality. The present invention renders the environmental pollution such as soil and river pollution by not using pesticide during cultivation of plants to be reduced sinificantly. While the present invention has been described and illustrated with respect to a preferred embodiment ofthe invention, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that variations and modifications are possible without deviating from the broad principles and teachings ofthe present invention which should be limited solely by the scope ofthe claims appended hereto.
