Description
NAPETEiS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. 5,12, 4
.To all 'whom it mtl/y conce/m:

tattatwt i (affita JACOB MILLER, or WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 83,523, dated October 27, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHIN FOR BEN-'DING OVAL ANDLES FOR TIN-WARE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
lBe it known that I, JA 00B MILLER., of Washington, in the county of Washington, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machine for Bending Oval Handles for Tinmen; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and. gures of reference marked thereon.
The natiu'e of my invention consists in the use 0f a frame, provided with a guide-pin, and adjustable forms, which are'used in connection with grooved rollers, for bending the wire for the handles around said adjuster ble forms, through the medium of levers, the whole being constructed, arranged, combined, and operating as hereinafter described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and open tion. f A
'In the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification- I Figure l-is a top view or plan of my improvement in machines for bending oval handles for timnen.
Figure 2 is a side elevation. of the same.
`In the drawings, A is the frame, which is provided with slots, B and e, guide-pin J, and a foot, h. In the Slots e are placed bolts, g, which are used in connection with screw-"nuts, 2, for securing the forms C in thev desired position on the lframe A. The forms C are braced apart by means of thebrace l The levers D are pivoted on the bolts g, and provided with rollers, f, which are held to the levers by means of screw-nuts, l.
The bending-machine may be adapted to different Sizes of wire and handles, by the use of rollers and forms of different sizes, and by making the guide-pin J adjustable. v
As the form, construction, and arrangement of the several parts of my improvement in machine for bending oval handles will be readily seen and understood,` by reference to the accompanying drawings, I will therefore,` without further description of their con struction, proceed to describe their operation, which is as follows:
Having all things constructed and arranged as herein described and represented, and the wire cut cii in suitable lengths, the wire is placed between the pin J and forms C, as vindicated by the wire marked m.
The levers D are then vforced around, as indicated by the arrows marked 3, until the levers are in the po- Sition shown by the red lines x', which will cause the rollers f to bend the wire around the forms C, as shown in red at x, thereby forming a uniform and perfect oval handle for the use of tinm'en.
' Having thus described the nature, construction, and operation 'of my improvement,
What Iclaim as of my invention is- The frame A, provided with the slots B and e, pin. J, forms 0,'and brace l, and used in combination with levers D, provided with rollers f, constructed, arranged, and operating as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
