MEDICINE-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,757, dated May 30, 1899.
Application led December 12, 1898. Serial No. 699,092. (No model.)
powdered form are generally put up for patients in suitable quantities for periodical doses by placing the powders upon small pieces of paper and then folding the papers to inclose such medicines and the doses thus prepared placed in paper boxes of common form. dose and in handling the open box the folded papers that have resilient force are liable to get out of the box and to unfold, so that their contents escape and are scattered and lost.
My object is .to prevent annoyances and losses incident to such manner of putting up medicines by providing suitable receptacles for retaining doses of medicine when in papers in such a manner that they may be taken out one at a time at intervals without danger of any falling out while the receptacle is open and being handled.
My invention consists in the box constructed and adapted to be advantageously used as hereinafter set forth,pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a diagrammatical view of a piece of paper-board adapted to produce a quadrangular open-topped box having guards extending-inward at the top edges of its -parallel sides. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a box produced from the blank shown by Fig. l. Fig. 3 shows the open-topped box inclosed in an open-ended case or box of common form as required in practical use. A semicircular portion of one end of the box, in which the ends of the folded papers are under the parallel guards, facilitates the removal o f the papers in succession. Fig. 4c is a transverse sectional view of Fig. 3. Fig. 5. is a top view of a square box, showing parallel guards on the sides with a semicircle of perforations f on one end, as in Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a perspective of the square box closed with a cover of corresponding size and common form and part of the cover broken away and adapted to be used In opening such a box to take out a for inclosin g medicines in capsules or in solid pills.

c and c are integral guards at the edges of the parallel sides and adapted to be extended inward at right angles, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

A curved row of perforations in the end portion d adapts a section f thereof to be readily removed to produce an opening adapted to admit the end of a persons thumb to facilitate the removal of folded papers containing medicine from 4under the guards c and c (that do not con- -tact with one end of the box) when the openended box is in position, as shown in Fig. 3, and the section f of one end removed.
By terminating the parallel guards c and c at some distance from the end of the box that has a line of perforations the papers containing doses of medicine can be readily slipped into the box to be retained under the guard and concealed and protected in the box until the box is opened for removing them, and when it is desired to open the box and to take out medicine for use the end portion f is readily broken away on account of the line of perforations, so that a persons lingers can by means of the opening produced on the end of the box and the guards at the top edges of the box not extending to said end readily gain access to the doses of medicine as required for taking out one dose at a time,while all that remains are retained securely in place under the guards and within the box.
Having thus described my invention and its purpose, its practical operation and utility will be readily understood by persons familiar with putting up and handling doses of medicine inclosed in folded papers, and
