NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH S. BLACKBURN, OF SALEM, OHIO.
WIRE-FEEDING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,935, dated November 24, 1891.
Application filed March 19, 1891. Serial No. 385,698. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH S. BLACKB RN, of Salem, inthe countyof Oolumbianaand State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Wire-Feed, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved wire-feed more especially designed for use on nailing-machines, and which is simple and durable in construction and very effective andpositive in operation.
The construction and arrangement of parts constituting the device are as hereinafter described, with reference to accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face view of the improvement in an open position. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a face view of the-improvement in a closed or gripping position.
The improvement is mounted on a plate A, provided with two pivots B and B, on which are mounted to swing the parallel levers C and D, respectively, connected by pivots E and E, respectively, with a jaw F, mounted to slide on the plate A, and opposite which is arranged a second jaw G, between which two jaws F and G the wire is gripped and fed to the desired place. The jaw G carries pivots H and H, connecting said jaw with the outer curved ends of the levers O and D, respectively, so that the two jaws F and G are arranged parallel and are pivotally connected with the two parallel levers O and D. On the front of the jaws F and G are arranged the pivots I and 1', respectively, connected with each other by a plate J, serving to hold the wire in place between the two jaws and the back plate A and the said plate J. A spring K, held on the plate A, presses with its free the levers O D and jaws F G swing in the,
direction of the arrow a then the two jaws F and G move from each other, so as to disengage the wire. a
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a wire-feed, the combination, with the plate A, of the two horizontal parallel movable jaws F G, the two vertical parallel levers O D, pivoted to said plate at one end and to said jaws at the other, a spring acting against the levers, and the plate J, pivoted to and connecting the jaws, as shown and described, whereby the parts are adapted to operate as specified.
2. In a wire-feed,the combination, with the plate A and the two parallel horizontal jaws F G, of the two levers O and D, which are pivoted to the plate and jaws at their respective ends and arranged between them, as shown, and the plate J, pivoted to the outer sides of thejaws and thereby connecting them and serving to hold the wire between the jaws, as shown and described.
JOSEPH S. BLACKBURN.
