Abstract

An improved vibrating bed, sofa or the like is provided wherein the bed element is provided with a motor and eccentric with the moving parts mounted over a frame on spring blocks of a synthetic foam-like material.

Z] 59 7 Li INVENTOR I 2 GERALD/NE H. THUR/WEI? VIBRATING MASSAGE DEVICE SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention is an improvement over the structure shown in my prior US. Pat. No. 2,674,993. The present invention relates to a vibrating board, commonly known in the trade as a Vibra-Slant Wonder Board which many people have found beneficial over the years. The present invention somewhat resembles the structure of my prior patent except that the device of the present invention lends itself to more varied applications. The device of the present invention can be made into a bed, either twin, full size, queen, king or the like, can be made as a sofa or can be made purely as a vibration and exercising device. The device of the present invention is simple in structure, long lasting and lends itself to a wide variety of decorative treatments.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to the drawing by reference character, the device of the present invention includes a boardlike element 3, on which is mounted a motor 5, having eccentric 7 mounted thereon. Ordinarily eccentrics would be provided on both sides of the motor. The motor is provided with the usual power coard 9 and switch 11, leading to a source of electricity, not shown. Mounted on the board 3 is a padding material 13 which is preferably a foam mattress about four inches thick. This can be cemented to the board 3.

Mounted under the board 3 is a rectangular frame element 15 which conforms in outline and size to the board 3. Mounted on the frame element 15 are a number of foam-rubber blocks 17. These foam blocks may be of rubber or preferably are a foam plastic such as polyurethane. A high density foam should be .used so that they will not unduly compress under weight. The foam springs 17 can be fastened to the board 3 by any suitable means, preferably by cementing. An upholstery covering 19 then goes over the entire assembly. If desired, legs 21 can be provided.

Thus far, I have described the basic structure and many variations can be made in this without departing from the spirit of this invention. For instance, in many instances, it is desired that the bed be mounted on a slant so that the legs 21 on one end might be longer than on the other. In portable applications, the legs could be eliminated.

The upholstery fabric 19 can be of any attractive, durable material and would be selected depending on the tastes of the user and the place where the device would be used. The vibrating board of the present invention could be made in the form of a conventional bed or sofa or the legs themselves could be eliminated if the device is to be used as a portable device in which case it can be merely placed on any convenient support. The fabric may be washable or water resistant.

In many instances, it is desirable to provide a timer switch in conjunction with the vibrating unit.

It is believed apparent from the foregoing that I have provided a substantially improved vibrating structure of attractive appearance.

I claim:

1. A vibrating board or the like comprising in combination:

a. a relatively stiff board,

b. a motor having an eccentric thereon mounted under said board,

0. a foam rubber padding mounted over said board,

d. a support frame for said board said support frame being of the same size as the board and including side and end members and at least one center cross member between said end member and being provided with a plurality of foam blocks, said foam blocks connecting said frame with said board, said blocks being located at each of the intersections of said side members with the end and cross methods, and

e. a fabric covering said entire structure and concealing said board, support frame and foam rubber pads.

Claims

1. A vibrating board or the like comprising in combination: A. A RELATIVELY STIFF BOARD, B. A MOTOR HAVING AN ECCENTRIC THEREON MOUNTED UNDER SAID BOARD, C. A FOAM RUBBER PADDING MOUNTED OVER SAID BOARD, D. A SUPPORT FRAME FOR SAID BOARD SAID SUPPORT FRAME BEING OF THE SAME SIZE AS THE BOARD AND INCLUDING SIDE AND END MEMBERS AND AT LEAST ONE CENTER CROSS MEMBER BETWEEN SAID END MEMBER AND BEING PROVIDED WITH A PLURALITY OF FOAM BLOCKS, SAID FOAM BLOCKS CONNECTING SAID FRAME WITH SAID BOARD, SAID BLOCKS BEING LOCATED AT EACH OF THE INTERSECTIONS OF SAID SIDE MEMBERS WITH THE END AND CROSS METHODS, AND E. A FABRIC COVERING SAID ENTIRE STRUCTURE AND CONCEALING SAID BOARD, SUPPORT FRAME AND FOAM RUBBER PADS.
