(Cl. 2--102) The invention relates to an article of clothing, more particularly to a reversible combination tie-vest article.
Prior art articles have not provided a combination tievest having a simplified unitary construction, which is both stylish and readily put on by the wearer. Such prior art articles of clothing have, also not provided a reversible feature as well as a singletie element unitarily constructed with the vest in a unique and highly decorous manner.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a new and improved combination tie-vest article which is reversible and provides a unitary structure which may readily be put on and taken oil by the wearer.
Another object is to provide a new and improved combination tie-vest article having a unitary construction including a tie band which may readily be tied by the wearer about the neck of a shirt garment.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved reversible combination tie-vest article which is provided with a unitary tie band which is pre-tied and may readily be secured in a detachable manner with the neck portion of a shirt garment.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved reversible combination tie-vest article which may readily be reversed and provide an entirely different tie-vest appearance thereby increasing the utility of the article.
The above objects, as well as many other objects of this invention, are achieved by providing a reversible combination tie vest article comprising a unitary vest panel having a portion extending from its top to provide a neck tie band and first and second waist bands respectively extending from opposite sides of the front panel. The front panel and neck tie and waist bands are reversible and made of two plies of material which may have a difierent pattern design on each side to provide a diiferent appearance when the combination is reversed. The front panel of the vest may be provided with vest buttons and simulated vest button holes to provide an attractive and ornamental appearance, while the ends of the waist bands may be provided with respective micro-hook materials allowing the securing of the ends of the wasit bands in either of said reversible positions. A tie band portion of the tie vest combination may also he pre-tied about a connecting band having micro-hook material at its ends for being secured with the collar portion of a shirt similarly provided with micro-hook securing means.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will in part be obvious and in part be described when the following specification is read in conjunction with the drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of a reversible combination tie-vest article embodying the invention,
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged plan view of the article shown in FIGURE 1 illustrating the obverse side thereof which is seen when the article is reversed,
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view illustrating the application of the tie-vest article of FIGURE 1 applied to a shirt garment of a wearer,
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged perspective view of a portion of the article in FIGURE 1 showing the tie band pretied and a shirt garment provided for being detachably secured with the pre-tied tie band of the tie-vest article,
FIGURE 5 is anenlarged plan view of the connecting "ice band which is shown in FIGURE 4 with the tie band pre-tied about the same.
Like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the figures, the reversible tie-vest article 10 comprises a vest panel 12 which has an upwardly narrowing portion 14 providing a neck region 16 and an extending slightly broadening tie portion 18 having an end 20. The lower portion 22 of the vest panel '12 is provided with arcuate bottom edges 24, 26 forming an intermediate V-notched edge region 28 with two bottom vest apex points 30, 32 all of a unitary construction.
The bottom portion 34 of the vest panel 12 provides laterally extending regions 36, 38 tor-med by the bottom edges 24, 26 and the upper edges 39, 40 of the vest panel 12. The regions 36, 38 may be integrally extended to form waist bands 42, 44 or may be sewn at 46, 48 with said waist bands 42, 44. The waist band 42 may be pro vided with securing means such as a patch of microhook material 50 on one side of its surface, while the end of the other waist band 44 may similarly be provided with a patch of micro-hook material 52 on the side of the band 44 opposite to that side to which the patch 50 is applied to on the band 42. This arrangement is such that when the ends of the waist bands are to be secured with the article 10 worn as shown in FIG- URE 3, the micro-hook materials 50, 52 are positioned proximate and opposite each other in securing relationship. This arrangement of the waist bands 42, 44 with their securing means or micro-hook material. patches 50, 52 also allows securing the ends of the waist band when the garment is worn in reversed position.
The extending tie band portion 18, if desired, may also be secured such as by sewing along 54 to provide a unitary structure when it is not desirable to make the article of one continuous sheet of material.
Vest pockets 56, 58 may also be provided with openings in the vest panel 12 on one side of the article and openings 56', 58' on the reverse side of the article 10.
The article 10 may be made with two plies of material on respective sides of the article, with each material having a different coloring or design. Thus, the article as shown in FIGURE 1 may show a material 60 having a plain design or no design, whereas when reversed, the other side may reveal the ply of a material 62 having a different appearance or design such as the checkered design illustrated in FIGURE 2.
As shown in FIGURE 2, the vest panel 12 on its face opposite that shown in FIGURE 1, may be provided with buttons 64, simulated button holes 66 and a seam 68 providing an ornamental appearance which may differ substantially from that revealed by its reverse side.
The reversible combination tie-vest article 10 is worn, as shown in FIGURE 3, by placing the article 10 over the front of a garment such as a shirt garment 70, with the waist bands 42, 44 positioned about the waist of the wearer and secured by the micro-contact patches or pads 50, 52 upon the application of clamping pressure. The extending tie band 18 may now be placed around the neck region under the collar portion 72 of the garment 70 and tied with the manipulation of the free end 20 to form a knot 74. The free end 20 of the neck tie 18 may be positioned under the portion 14 of the vest 12 in concealment as indicated in FIGURE 3.
The combination tievest article 10 may be reversed so that the design of the material 62 is exposed and positioned about the wearer in the manner described above. In this case, the article 10 provides a difierent appearance revealing the ornamental buttons 64, button holes 66 and seam 68, as well as another shade or design of the material 62. The reversible article 10, therefore, has great utility in that it may be utilized in place of two such garments by its reversibility,'thus' allowing the selection of a particular color or design by the wearer.
The applicant notes that the waist bands 42 and 44, when the article is reversed; also present an outer visible material which corresponds to that of the vest panel 12 which is exposed. At the same time the same securing means 50, 52 may be employed for securing the waist bands 42, 44 to each other irrespective of the reversible position'chosen by the wearer. This will be evident from FIGURE 2 when it is noted that the ends of the waist bands 42,- 44 may be brought torward and secured by the micro-hook pads 50, 52, or alternatively backward for the reversed position and also secured together by the same securing means.
Referring to FIGURES 4 and 5, a connecting band 76 is provided having a substantially rectangular portion 78 and rounded endportions 80, 82 provided with microhook material 84, 86 on their surfaces. As shown in FIGURE 4, the neck tie band 18 is tied about the central' portion 78 of the connecting band 76' to form the tie knot 74. The combination reversible tie-vest article is thus provided with a pre-tied knot 74.
In order to attach the article 10, the wearer, after securing the waist bands 42, 44 inthe manner described, applies by clamping pressure the ends, 80, 82 of the connecting bandsto regions 88, 90 of the neck portion 92 of a garment such as a shirt 94. The regions 88,- 90 have secured thereto in equally spaced distances from the center or collar button 96 of the shirt- 94 and un der the collar 96" the micro-hook patches 98, 100; After the connectingband 76' is thus secured withthe neck portion of the shirt garment 94, the collar 96, which is shown in the upward or raised position in FIGURE 4, may be lowered to the wearing position concealing the ends '80, 82 of the connecting ban d 76;
The combination tie-vest-article' 10, with the use of the'connecting band 76 and the'micro-hook patches 98,
may instantly be removed by applying downward tension to the knot 74 ofthe article 10 and separating the pads 50, 52 at the ends of the waist bands 42, 44. Although the invention is disclosed showing particular ornamental forms such as the sides of the article 10 respectively illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2, the invention is not intended to be limited to such particular ornamental features since the disclosed embodiment is representative of many such ornamental designs which are obvious in view of the disclosure. g
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that the invention may findwide application with appropriate modification to meet the individual design circumstances, but without substantial departure from the essence of the invention. v
What is claimed is: v
1-. A combination tie-vest article comprising a unitary 'vest' panel which narrows to a single band in the direction towards its top portion and extends to provide a neck ti'e band with one free e'nd, said panel having its greatest width at its bottom portion and provides the only neck tie band of said articlefand first and second waist bands respectively extending from opposite sides of the bottom portion of said vestpanel. V

The article of claim 1 in which said front panel and neck tie and waist bands-are reversible and have separate front and back layers of material providing two plies, one of said layers of materialis' provided with a dif ferent pattern design than the other'to provide a different appearance when said combination is reversed.

1. A COMBINATION TIE-VEST ARTICLE COMPRISING A UNITARY VEST PANEL WHICH NARROWS TO A SINGLE BAND IN THE DIRECTION TOWARDS ITS TOP PORTION AND EXTENDS TO PROVIDE A NECK TIE BAND WITH ONE FREE END, SAID PANEL HAVING ITS GREATEST WIDTH AT ITS BOTTOM PORTION AND PROVIDES THE ONLY NECK TIE BAND OF SAID ARTICLE, AND FIRST AND SECOND WAIST BANDS RESPECTIVELY EXTENDING FROM OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE BOTTOM PORTION OF SAID VEST PANEL.
