(Cl. 128-4 The present invention relates to improvements in cervical collars and has been constructed to meet all the various conditions in regard to which the use of said collars are desirable or necessary.

Thus an object of the invention is to make the construction of said collar light of weight, comfortable to wear and at the same time imparting a solid support to the neck of the wearer.

Another object of the invention resides in the fact that said collar may be adjustedrto any height as well at the front as at the rear thereof.

FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view of my invention, showing the latter, in dotted lines, extended or raised as well at the front as at the rear.

FIGURE 2 is a horizontal transverse view partly in section.

FIGURE 3 is an elevational view of the inner side of the invention with the connecting ends especially flatly displayed; while FIGURES 4 and 5 are detail views.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral indicates a cervical collar consisting of two parts or sections 11 and 12.

Two sheets of suitable soft but

durable materials

13 and 14 are folded upon themselves and each embrace a padded inlay, for instance of foam rubber.

These sheets are, respectively, stitched to

strips

15 and 16, consisting, preferably, of plastic material, as indicated for the upper section 11 at 15', 15 and for the lower section 12 at 16', 16'.

The lower section 12 of the cervical collar terminates at each end in

flaps

17 and 18 provided with means for securing said collar together, the said means generally termed Velcro fasteners consisting of a section of an infinitesimal small web on the flap 17 adapted upon closing of the collar to engage a section of infinitesimal small hooks or barbs upon the other flap 18.

The lower section 12 has at the front a plate 19 secured to the strip 16 by members or screws 20 for the relative adjustment of the sections 11 and 12; said plate is formed with a slot 21, while a screw 22 adapted to move in said slot 21 and engage a threaded socket shown at 23 in FIGURE 2 in the section 11, secures the sections 11 and 12 together in the desired adjusted position; said socket 23 is formed in a tiny plate 24 embodied between the layers of the section 11, as shown in FIG- URE 2.

The section 12 has at its strip 16 on both sides near the ends of the latter two plates 19, 19 (only one of which is shown) and slots 21' and with holes 22a, as shown in FIGURE 4, for fastening members or screws 20, said holes being slightly larger than the holes 25 shown in FIGURE 5, for the fastening of members or screws 20 in the plate 19 at the front.

The reason for this is to permit the cervical collar to extend upwardly or rise separately in the rear as shown in dotted lines at A, as well as at the front at B.

I claim as my invention:

1. A cervical collar comprising two sections, each section consisting of a piece of suitable material folded upon itself, a soft inlay covered by said material, a plastic strip stitched to said piece of material, said sections being folded upon themselves, the lower section being adapted to have its ends secured together and surround the neck of a person, a plate formed with a vertical slot and being arranged at the front of the lower section and similar plates with slots arranged at the ends of said section, screws adapted to move in the respective slots, whereby to adjust said sections relatively together as to the height of said collar, and sockets disposed in the upper section and receiving said screws for the adjustment.

2. A cervical collar comprising two adjustable sections adapted to form a unit, part of one section being arranged upon the inner side of the other, each of said sections consisting of a piece of soft and durable material folded upon itself, an inlay of foam rubber covered by said material, a strip of suitable stiif material stitched onto said piece of soft material, said sections being folded upon themselves, flaps at the ends of the outer one of said sections and being adapted to secure said sections together, plates formed with vertical slots therein and being mounted one at the front and one on each side near the ends of said outer section, said plates being formed with openings adapted to receive means for securing said plates to section, the plates arrangement at the rear of the section and having larger openings than those at the front, whereby to obtain suitable adjustment as to the relative height of the neck portion of the collar, screws adapted to move in said slots for vertical adjustment of the sections, and sockets in the inner section made to receive said screws.

3. A cervical collar comprising two sections, each section consisting of a piece of suitable material folded upon itself, a soft inlay covered by said material, a plastic strip stitched to said piece of material, said sections being folded upon themselves, and the lower one of said sections having its ends secured together and adapted to surround the neck of a person, a plate formed with a vertical slot therein and being arranged at the front of the lower section, similar plates with slots therein arranged at the ends of said section, screws adapted to move in the respective slots, whereby to permit adjustment of said sections relatively together and to an uneven height, and sockets disposed in the upper section and receiving said screws for said adjustment.

Claims

1. A CERVICAL COLLAR COMPRISING TWO SECTIONS, EACH SECTION CONSISTING OF A PIECE OF SUITABLE MATERIAL FOLDED UPON ITSELF, A SOFT INLAY COVERED BY SAID MATERIAL, A PLASTIC STRIP STITCHED TO SAID PIECE OF MATERIAL, SAID SECTIONS BEING FOLDED UPON THEMSELVES, THE LOWER SECTION BEING ADAPTED TO HAVE ITS ENDS SECURED TOGETHER AND SURROUND THE NECK OF A PERSON, A PLATE FORMED WITH A VERTICAL SLOT AND BEING ARRANGED AT THE FRONT OF THE LOWER SECTION AND SIMILAR
