4 Claims. (Cl. 2-97);
This invention relates to a removablel sectional coat lining or interliner, and more particularly tosuch an interliner adapted to be utilized with outer garments such as Aovercoats or the like.
A primary object of this invention is-to ,provide such an improved coat interiiner which may be readily attached to and removed from a garment, as desired; Y
A further and very important object ofthe invention is the provision of such an interliner which, when not i`n usewithin the coatto provide added warmth thereto, may be readily suspended from an' interior portion thereof to folded'relation in such manner as to be readily accessible for use at all times, and so positioned as to aiord a minimum of additional warmth when in carrying position.
Still another object of' the invention is the provision of such a construction which may be readily positioned between the body ofv the overcoat and the inner lining thereof andY supported therebetween in such manner as tobe substantially invisible when not in use.
A further object of the invention isV the provision of such an interliner which may. be formed in two parts which may be readily assembled and secured to the garment when desired, to provide substantial warmth and added thickness about those portions ofthe body where most needed, and which, when disassembled, may be readily folded in such manner as to occupy a relatively small amount of space.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds, and shown in the accompanyi.
ing drawings, wherein there isV disclosed a preferredY embodiment of this inventive concept.`
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front plan View of an overcoat or similar garment shown in open position and disclosing the interliner of the instant invention in operative position therein.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure l, but showing the interliner removed therefrom and positioned between the inner lining and the body of the garment for carrying.
Figure 3 is a plan view of one of the elements of the sectional interliner,
Figure 4 is a plan View ci the other ci the elements of the sectional interliner.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially along the lineV 5 5 of Figure 2, as viewed in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 6` is aV fragmentary view of certain con- A structionaldetails, certain parts thereof being shown as cutaway7 and disclosing one section of the interliner in folded or carrying position.
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 'I-l of Figure 6.
Having reference now to the drawings, and more particularly to Figures 1 and 2, there is generally indicated at IIJ an overcoat including a collarr II, lapels I2, a back portion I3, side portions Ifl, and oppositely spaced front portions l5 adapted to be secured together when the coat is worn by the conventional buttons and buttonholes. The coat Ill also-includes an inner lining I6 and armholes I1 from which extend conventional sleeves (not shown).
A' row of spaced buttons I3 extends upwardly along the inner side of the front portion of the coat III from-a positionsubstantially at the waist line thereof across the top of the side and back portions I 4- and I3, and thence downwardly on the inner side ofA the opposite front portion I5 to the waist, The sections of the interliner of the instant invention are providedwith appropriate button holes for engagement with the buttons i3 in order to secure the interlinerin position for wear within the garment.
Thesectional interliner of the garment iscomprised of two sections ZllV and 2i each Aof a coni-lguration adapted-t0 cover the interior of substantially halfV4 of the'overcoat- IE) andeach provided witha plurality of spaced buttonholes 22 adapted, when the -interliner is to be used, to be engaged by the buttons I,` The meeting sides of the sections 25 and 2l are adapted to overlap, and the inner edges of one section, as for example 2B, is provided with arow of buttons 23 adapted to engage a row of buttonholes 24 cut in the adjacent edge of the opposite section 2l. Each of the sections 2B and 2l is provided with an armhole portion 25 and an interior cut-away portion 2t` extending from the armhole portion to the lower extremity of the lining, the opposite sides of each section being secured together across the cutaway portion 26, as by means of resilient strips 21, stitched or otherwise suitably secured to the edges of the slit, to provide relative flexibility and ease of movement within the garment when the interliner is in installed position.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that when the interliner is in the position shown in Figure 1, the warmth and weight of the overcoat IB in those areas where cold is normally most felt, namely, the back and front of the garment above the waist, is materially increased.
Under milder weather conditions, when it is desired to remove the interliner, it is desirable alsoto have the same readily available to be utilized in the event of further weather change towards more severe cold. Under such conditions, the sections are removed by vunbuttoning the buttons 23 and I8, respectively, and each section is folded longitudinally. The lowerportions of the sections and 2| are provided with aligned pairs of buttonholes adapted to register, when the sections are folded in the manner above described and shown in Figure 5. As best shown in Figures 2, 6 and 7, each side` of theinner lining I6 is provided at substantially breast height with a transverse slot 3l extendingthrough the inner lining and being located in the side section I4 of the garment, or that portion thereof adjacent the section of the body which is least affected by temperature changes, A reinforcing strip 32 is secured to the body of the coat adjacent and above each of the slots '3l and has secured thereto depending tabs 33 provided with buttons 34 at their extremities, the buttons being positioned in alignment withthe buttonholes 30 when the sections are folded asin Figure 5. Thus, it will be seen that when the garment interliner is folded in the manner above indicated, it depends between the body of the coat and the inner lining thereof in proximity to but below the armholes I1 in the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, and is supported securely in an outof-the-way and substantially invisible manner, but is at the same time readily accessible for use in the event that such use becomes necessaryA From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved removable sectional interliner accomplishing all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many 4modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and Vnot in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. In combination, a garment having-a body portion, a lining therefor, a removable foldable interliner and means for concealing said interliner during non use including a pocket in said lining, a plurality of fastening means secured within said pocket, a plurality of apertures in said interliner, said apertures arranged to register in aligned groups when said interliner is folded, said fastening means being engageable with said aligned groups of apertures for supporting said liner during non use including a pocket in said lining, a plurality Aof fastening means secured within said pocket, a plurality lof apertures in said interliner, said apertures arranged to register in aligned groups when said interliner is folded, said fastening means being engageable with said aligned groups of apertures for supporting said interliner within said pocket in concealed position, said plurality of apertures being located adjacent the lower edge of said interliner in its operative position, and at the top when said interliner is inverted for positioning within said pocket.
3. In combination, a garment having a body portion, a lining therefor, a removable foldable interliner and means for concealing said interliner during non use including a pocket in said lining, a pluralityof fastening means secured within said pocket, a plurality of apertures in said interliner, said apertures arranged to register in aligned groups when said interliner is folded, said fastening means being engageable with said aligned groups of apertures for supporting said interliner within said pocket in concealed position, said plurality of fastening means being positioned in proximity to and below the arm holes of said garment.
4. In combination, a garment having a body portion, a lining therefor, a removable foldable interliner and means for concealing said interliner during non useA including a pocket in said lining, a plurality of fastening means secured within said pocket, a plurality of apertures in said interliner, said apertures arranged to register in aligned groups when said interliner is folded, said fastening means being engageable with said aligned groups of apertures for supporting said interliner within said pocket in concealed position, said garment having a pair of pockets and said interliner comprising a pair of separable seetions, each of which is disposable in one of said pockets.
