DENTI ST S MODEL Filed Nov. 2O
Patented July 4, 14933 i,eiaziie raies WALTER nomine, en MUNIcH, .GERMANY DENTIST S MODEL application inea November 2o, i930, seriai No. vr496,919, ami in eermaiiyseptember-as; 179-30.
My .invention .relates to dentists lmodels, and more particularly tomodels having` an .upper and a lower j aw arrangedgfor` the demonstration of mastication movements andy of abnormal positions of the human lower jaw. The model mayalsobe used in dentistry as a i so-called i articulator for .making .artificial teeth.
It is an object. of my inventiontoprovide .a-model in which the movable jaw may be iXed on'a foundation plate in any desired position. `To this end I mount the mova- -ble jawto slide onthe foundationplate in allv directions and I provide meansfor fixing itin any desiredposition. Preferably'l also .providemeans for varyingthe angular po sition of the movable jaw withrespect to the foundation plate.
In the drawing,` .aliixed tothis specification and forming part -thereof :a model. embody- Fig. S'isa plan .view of the foundation f V`plate, with the jaws removed, and
Figs. 4 and 5 are details. yReferring to the drawing, 1J is the.k foundationl plate, 2 and 3 are uprightsextending upwardly from the plate, l isa pin support ed in the upper ends of the two. uprights, and

Awhich Vis placed with its openingQQ onthe E28 are held down on the rectangular washer '-23 of thel foundationplate 1 'in Aany desired frame 21,v 27 may be displaced longitudinally and 14: engages the ends of a shaft 16 .which '.projectsfrom a'bracket l5. rlfhe -forled ends 13,14, are secured onthe ends of the shaft '16 rby ineansofpins 17 Vand 18, orother suitable ineens, so that .the shaft 16 rotates in the 555' vbracket' when the lower jaw 12 is rocked. The bracket 15is equipped with a handle 19 which rvprojects .from the model at the left. The
bracket surrounds a pin 2O` on therfoundati on 21 vplate with rounded ends '0 pin-Q0 so' as to surround it with considerable clearance, while the plate is in turn surrounded with some clearance by the bracket 15. 23 is avrectangular washer attlie;hase5 f. ofpin20, and 2li is an annular projectionon thebottom 'face ofthe plate l by which A.it

V29 isa pin lwhich is inserted in registering bores: of the z plates 21 and 27. 30 is a washer which isplac-ed .onthe upper plate-917 and 81 isa nutonthe threaded upper eiidof the pin 2() which bears onthewasher 30. y `When thenut 31 is set, the plates21 and position with respect tothe pin 20. At"r the saineftfilme'shaft 16 is clamped in th'cinotches or bearings y25 and 26 of the plates.' The plates 21' and 27 thus Yconstitute a `f-ianiewhich is surrounded by the bracketgl and connected-thereto by the shaft 1G of: thelower When the nut 31 is partly:unscrewedfthe and transversely. As mentioned, the opening 22 and the opening 28 which-registers with the opening` H22, vsurroundythe pin 2() .with considerable .clearance and a 1corresponding freedom of movement, in ,all 4directions is. permitted to the frame 21,27 ,andelso toftheabraclret 15 which is connectedto the rframe'bythe pin 16. ilhile the frameand thef'brackettare displacedfthefree endof the movablefjaw 12 slides on the foundation plate, adjustment being facilitated by the handle 19. By setting the nut 31 the frame 21, 27, and consequently also the jaw 12 are fixed in any given position.
32 is a slide which is fitted in a notch 33 extending lengthwise of the foundation plate 1, 34 is a handle near its outer end and 35 is a set screw for xing saine in any given position, 36 being a slot in the slide for the reception of the screw 35. The slide forms part of the foundation plate 1 kand normally supports the freeend of the lower aw 12 so that the jaw is only displaced in parallel to the foundation plate by the handle V19. 37 is a step or shoulder near the front end of the .slide 32.
When the slide is retracted so that t-he step 37 is moved beyond the outer end of the lower jaw 12, the jaw is free to rock about the axis of its shaft 16 soV that itsy angular position with respect to the foundation plate 1 may be varied. Obviously the nut 31 must be partly unscrewed to permit the shaft 16 to rock in the V- notches 25 and 26 of the frame 21,
r27. By setting the nut 31 the lower jaw 12 isheld in the position imparted to it by the vhandle 19, and at the angle through which it has been rocked about the shaft 16.
' Means for exactly fixing the lower jaw in its normal position maybe 'combined with the slide 32, as will now be described. 33 is a pin near the front end of the slide 32, which Vis adapted to enter a notch 39, and 40 and pending application for patent of the nited States, Serial No. 369,327, filed June 8, 1329, in which I have described jaws in combination with exchangeable gum models and exchangeable teeth adapted tov be inserted inV the models.
I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown anddescribed, for obperson said foundation plate at the other end,.and
means on said pin for fixing said frame on said plate in any desired position.
