Patented Feb. 16, 1932 y Parser MARION A. MEIKLE, F SPRINGFIELD,-ILLINOIS erica l COMBINATION BOX AND CLEANING BRUSH FORv TETH Application filedV October 18, 1.930. Serial No. 489,593.
My invention relates to sanitary containers and eflicient cleaning means for protecting and cleaning masticating appliances known as false teeth. v
An object of my invention is to provide substantial and practical means for enclosing and cleaning articial masticating appliances; an object being in my device to provide a convenient, inexpensive, practical and sanitaryl box in which to 4enclose the false teeth when in use andl in which they may be thoroughly-cleaned by means `of brush members within the enclosure, vwhich brushl members may be permanently or detachably l5 connected with the box and usedV in their normal functioningby manipulating the box or parts thereof along with themovements of the brush members.
A particular purpose of. my invention is to provide incombination with a sanitary box for containing false teeth, a convenient and practical v means of` brushing the same with or withoutcleaning powder or pastes 2 by rotating the cover members of the boxover a the surface lof the false teeth so as to thor-v oughly reach all parts'of the appliances.
I attain the objects of my Ainvention in thedevice described in these specifications, 'recited in the claims and illustrated" in the erence numerals indicate like parts in the several gures.
Referring to the figures: P Figure 1 isa perspective ofone of the a cover members of my invention showing in a cut-a-way the brush bristle members used in 5 bristles operatively mounted in the box `are :with an Vintermediate accompanying drawings in which like refnormally fitted snugly up against the upper and lower sides o1e both the upper and lower set of false'teeth.
Figure 5 is a vertical half section of a singiev compartment box for oneset of uppers or `lowers at a time. I, y Figure `6 is a perspective of a detail showing how the brush mountings may be attached to theV box casing .ldetachably Where it is so desired. p `6 Referring in detail to the constructionfotmy invention. and the preferred manner of operating `the same, provide in connection round box container.. A
'This intermediateplate 1 is provided with an outer flange 2`or 'holdingthesamellby hand ,when it is desired to brush the teeth.
- Flange' member EZV projects" as an.k annular band aboutjintermediate plate lfandiswin- 0 tegral therewith.- Registering above and'below it are extensions 3 and l respectivelyover which to Vnormally lit bristle `equipped, cover members '5 and (iof the box. f y CoverV member 5 has a stable mounting 9 75` for bristlesr 7 which extend kin a raised position atthe center and about the periphery thereof within the boxs outer band Jigory cleaning upper set 15 or vlower set 14. ',Covermember 6 has bristle members 8 S9 mounted within its base member 10 and the f ybristle members therein are formed like those in' cover 5 to register effectively for cleaning the appliances on the opposite side f, 0I" plate 1. Thus itv will be observed that 85 the ends of the bristles 7,8, 11. and 12 are trimmed in a manner adapted to eiectively clean the recesses inthe composition or rubbei` mounting for the false teeth 'by rotating thejlbrush` or cover members'to which the bistlesgare'attached, either rigidly or detacha ly.
It will be observed that either cover member 5 or 6 'may be rotatedalone or they may L be both rotated at the same timewhile hold- 9G ing the central or intermediate plate l so that either one side ofthe masticating appliances l may be cleaned at a time or both sides may be cleanedat the same time. f A .f
' It will be observed Vthat the bristles in this mi plate 1 a preferably 651 boX may be mounted on detachable plates 9 or 10 for convenience in cleaning and sterilizing the brushes; in ywhich case these detachable plates may be either clamped or fas tened with screws or snapped or otherwise secured firmly to the covers 5 and 6 by detachably fastening them onto the cover members by a tongue 13 in the cover members engaged by a groove in the mountings 9 and 10 (see Fig. 6). In like manner the brush mounting 9 in cover member 5 may bedetachably secured therein or it may be made permanently intor the cover members 5 and 6 if so desired.
An upper set 15 with its plate 16 may be brushed by bristles 7 and 11 in the first compartment or may be placed in the other compartment opposite plate 1 and brushed by bristles 8 and 12; while lower set 14V may also be cleaned in either compartment.
Where only one set is used then a single boX consisting Aof plate 17 and a cover v18- inay be used respectively with bristles 19 and 2O for cleaning an upper or lower set one at a time. Figure 5 shows an upper set of ap pliances in place for cleaning them.
Tongue 13 prevents plates 9 and`10 from turning .when the covers 5 and 6 are being turned.
I do not wish to be confined in the spirit and scope of my invention to the exact forni of the cover members or the detachable or fixed mounting for the brush bristle members or the annular flange 2, on intermediate plate 1 since the circumstances of use to which-my invention is adapted may require one structure in one situation and another elsewhere.
Having thus described the nature of my ining an intermediate brush mounting plate' and a top and bottom cover and brush section; said intermediate plate adapted to engage the upper and lower set of false teeth appliances; said top and bottom covers and said plate each provided with brush members for brushing said appliances and also adapted to provide sanitary closure means for protecting said appliances.
2. A container and cleaning brush for masticating appliancescomprising a bor; provided with an intermediate brush plate and a top and bottom closure member each provided with inner brush bristles for cleaning said appliances while engaged by said'plate and said closure members. v
3. As a new article of manufacture a coinbination container and brush for false teeth comprising an annular intermediate brush plate member7 a pair of brush equipped cover members; said intermediate brush plate member cooperating Vwith said Cover members so'as to rotatably brush said appliances by slidably moving the cover members about the periphery of said annular intermediate brush plate member; said plate member provided with a central annular flange and annular side flanges; said cover members adapted to be manually rotated while said central plate member is held in place.
4. A container and cleaner brush for containing and brushing masticating appliances and comprising a iniddleplate provided with oppositely disposed bristles on opposite sides and oppositely disposed annular side flanges encompassing the bristles and an intermediate holding flange, a pair of boX cover meinbersV respectively vfitting said side lianges of said middle plate so as to cover said bristles of the middle plate and each provided with detachable brush members and means provided in both of said cover members for engaging said brush members detachably. n
5. A container and cleaning brush for containing aiid brushing masticating appliances comprising a base plate provided with brush ristles on one side, anintegral annular outer flange and an integral v,annular side flange, a cover member for encompassing the side flange and provided with a detachable inner brush member adapted to cooperate witl said bristles VVofthe base plate Vfor cleaning false teeth by relatively rotating the cover ieinber about the side flange of the base plate member... c n 4 v 6. A container and brush for false teeth comprising in combination a cylindrical box having a top V- and bottom and lcentral section; said sections each provided-with brush bristles, shaped to follow the contour of a set of false teeth V*appliances ;said central section provided with bristles on both sides and an outer flange to be engaged by the hand;
and said top and bottom sections each adapt-v ed to slidably vlit about the annular side flanges of said central section and rest against said central outer flange of the central section; whereby said central section may be y held stationary while holding said appliances
