Application led December 22, 1926. Serial No. 156,479.
This invention relates to vanity cases and particularly to an improved compact holder and ejectoi` for vanity cases and has for an object to provide an improved structure wherein the compact is held in place against accidental removal, but in position to be easily and quickly ejected.
Another object of the invention is. to provide an improved compact holder andA ejector wherein the ejector is arranged with one leg beneath the holder and the other above or adjacent the holder and in a position to be swung for causin a loosening or ejectingof the compact hol er.
A further object of the invention is to provide a compact holder and ejector wherein the. holding and ejecting members are mounted on or carried by an inserted ring in the vanity case..

Referring to the accompanying drawing by mimera s, 1 indicates the body of'a vanity case and 2 the lid hingedly connected therewith. The body 1 is provided with a bead 3, which on the inner part, carries the wire ring for the inge 5 and certain bent parts 6 of ring 4 act as holding members for the eom-.

These members act to hold the kcompact in the body 1 while the ejector 11 may function to eject the compact as shown in Fi re 3 whenever the arm 12 is raised. It Awil be noted that the arm 13 is always beneath the compact plate 9 so thatl by raisingarm 12, the compact plate will be forced past certain of the holding burs` or gojections 8 and released.
e The holding ring 7 ,is provided with an inwardly bent section or portion 14.- which provides an opening through which the part 15 of ejector 11 projects. Also by pressing back the comparatively short section 14, the pintles 15' and 15 may be readily inserted as indicated particularly in Figure 4 whereby the ejector is pivotally mounted on the ring 7. The pintles 15 and 15 may be inserted in 4any desired manner preferably b having one of these intles bent down an then the other pintle inserted and finally the .bent one inserted and bent back into its original position as shown in Figure 11.
In Figure 5, a slightly modified structure I is shown to that illustrated in .Figures 1 to 3. The modification consists of having the arm 12 bent back over the top section 16 of ring 7. By forming the arm 12' in this manner, instead of pulling u wardly on this arm 'for ejecting 1`iurposes, t e arm must be 1pressed downwa ly whereipon arm 13 will e raised u wardly to pro uce anejecting' action simi ar to that shown in Figure 3.
Where the ejector is constructed as shown-in Y Figures 1 to 3, arm 12 extends slightly over the compact 10 and may act as a holding member for the powder puff 17. In the form shown in Figure 5, the arm 12 is out of the way and does not interfere in any way with the use of the powder or of rapidly moving the powder puff over the compact in any desired-manner.
Figures 6 andv 7 show a modified form of the invention wherein a diii'erently formed casing 1 is provided. Casingv 1 is rovided with a lid 2 the side wa ls 19 and orms an interior shoulder 20 which is adapted. to receive one or l hingedly connected wit casingl N1 and formed to fit over the offset portion 18. This ortion is ressed inwardly from los more pressed out tongues 21 pressed from the compact supporting ring 22. This ring is preferably channelshaped in cross section andV also preferably provided with several tongues Q1 which snap beneath the shoulder 20 when the ring is placed in position. The inner part of ring 22 is provided with any desired number of lugs or pressed out portions 8 which function in a similar manner to portions 8 of the preferred form. The ejector 23 is identical with that shown in Figure 3 and functions in the same manner so that no additional description will be necessary.
In Figures 8 and 9 a further modified form of the invention is shown wherein the ring 24 is somewhat similar to the-ring 1S of the preferred form but is provided with a pressed down and radially extendinfr p0rtion 25 adapted to fit under the inwardly ex* tending liange 26 of the casing l". The ring 2i is provided with any desired number oi' resilient looped portions Q7, there being shown in the drawing tivo ot' these looped portions, though a different number may be used if desired. lWhen the compact plate 28 is forced downwardly into the casing 1., it snaps past these resilient holding members 27 whereby the compact is held against accidental removal. An ejector 29 is provided similar in construction to that shown in the other forms of the invention.
In most Jforms of the invention, a substantially U-shaped ejector is provided and one that is pivotally mounted with one leg projecting beneath the compact and the other leg to some point convenient for operation whereby the leg beneath the compact may be swung and act in a certain sense as a lever or cam for crowding the compact past the retaining lugs which are more or less resilient and thereby allow this action as Well as allow the compact to be snapped properly into position.
"What I claim is:
1. A compact hol-der and ejector for vanity cases comprising a holding ring, a retaining ring formed With means for holding said compact holding ring in place, means on the compact holding ring for holding a compact in the case, and a pivotally mounted ejector carried by said compact-holding ring having one section projecting beneath the compact carried by the vanity case and the other segltion projecting to a point readily accessi e.

3. A compact holder and ejector for vanity cases comprisin a ring adapted to be mounted in theoody of a vanity case, an ejector formed with a substantially U-shaped body member having a. pair of arms and a pair of ears extendingr through said ring for pivotally mounting the ejector, and means carried by the ring for ydisengageably holding the compact in the case Within the ring` said ejector being positioned With one of said arms normally beneath said compact whereby when the other arm is manually actuated the compact will be forced past said holding means and thereby be released.
d. A compact holder and ejector for vanity cases comprising a substantially L-shaped ring adapted to be fitted into the body oit a vanity case, said ring being formed with a plurality of pressed out members for holding a compact in said body, said ring having an opening therein, and an ejector having a looped portion pivotally mounted Within the ring and a pair of arms extending from the looped portion through the opening, one of said arms beingl normally positioned beneath said compact and the other at a point above the compact.
5. The combination with a vanity case provided with a body and a substantially annular ring carried by the body and formed with bent ortions, of a compact holder com prisinga llijolding ring adapted to be held in the body by said bent portions, said holding ring being formed with compact hold in means for holding the compact in the bo y, and an ejector having integral pintle members, loosely interlocking with said holding ring for pivotally mounting the ejector, said ejector having two arms, one projecting beneath said compact and the other project ing to a point convenient of manual actuation.
