Be it known that I, THEODORE CH. SMOLINSKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gary, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Hammers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in toys and has for its object to provide a toy hammer having a rattle attachment con nected thereto.

Another object of the invention is to provide a toy hammer so constructed that it will not injure an article struck with the same.

WVith the above and other objects in view I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my device;

Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereofhigure 3 is a similar view shown partly in sections; and

Figure 4 is a. view similar to Figure 2 of a modified form of the device.

Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which, 1 indicates a toy hammer embracing a head 2, a handle 3, and an elastic band 1, secured at 5 t0 the point end of the hammer and at 6 of the handle. Riveted to the central portion of the band 4 is a hollow metal ball 7 having a solid ball 8 therein. The butt 9 of said head has its surface covered with a rubber pad 10 secured thereto by nails 11. This pad 10 will not only prevent the hammer from injuring any furniture or other-articles truck with the hammer, but will also cause the hammer to rebound upon strikingthe article. When an object is struck with the hammer, however, the rebound will cause the ball 7 to fly away from the handle through the giving of said elastic band, as indicated in Figure 2 and the rebound of said ball through the action of said band will cause the ball to hit the.

Having described my invention that which I claim is new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:

1. A device of the kind described consisting of hammer including a handle having means for causing its rebound upon striking an article, and a rattle operated through the action of said rebound, a resilient member connected to said hammer to which said rattle is secured.

2. A device of the kind described consisting of a hammer including a handle having means for causing its rebound upon stricking an article, and a rattle operated through the action of said rebound, a resilient member connected to said hammer to which said rattle is secured, said rattle consisting of a hollow ball and a solid ball located therein.

3. A device of the kind described consisting of a hammer including a handle having means for causing its rebound upon striking an article, and a rattle operated through the action of said rebound, a resilient member connected to said hammer to which said rattle is secured, said rattle consisting of a hollow ball and a solid ball located therein, said member consisting of a leaf spring.
