Be it known that l, HUBERT BAILEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Polishing Toolsof which the ollowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to polishing tools primarily designed for use as toothbrushes.
In the construction of polishing tools it is a great advantage if the tool may be easily disassembled for the replacement of parts. lf the polishing tool is to be used as a toothbrush it is very essential that the device be small and compact so that it may be projected into the mouth to reach any of the teeth. Further, when the device is used as a toothbrush it is important that all the parts that are subject to any considerable wear should be capable of replacement so that after the initial outlay has been made for the polishing tool it may be kept in condition at a very small cost.
The general object of this invention is the provision of a simple, compact and ecient polishing tool that may be easily disassembled for cleaning and the replacement of parts. y
A further object of this invention `is the provision of a polishing tool thatmay be associated with any water supply system and driven thereby.
These objects are accomplished by providing a two-piece casing, thehead sectionI of the casing having mounted therein a hollow shaft carrying a brush and a. bevel gear, both removably mounted thereon, said hollow shaft being retained in position when the head section is attached to the tubularsection of the casing by the driving means which engages with the gear mounted on the hollow shaft, and associating with the driving means a prime mover.
These and other objects of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.

Referring to the above-mentioned drawi ings, a casing assemblagelO is made up of a tubular sectionv 11 and a head section 12. The tubular section 11 has an enlarged end 37 vprovided with an external thread for mounting it in a turbine casing 13. This enlarged portion 37 is circular and concentric with the tubular section 11. Thus when tubular section 11 is mounted in alignment it is mounted in the turbine casing 13 the with the axis of the turbine wheel 14. Two l bearings land 16,`which are provided with external threads areiremovably mounted in the ends of the tubular section 11 which is provided with internal threads. The bearing 16 extends beyond theend ofthe tubular section 11, and the head section 12 of the I casing is mounted on this bearing.
Rotatablymounted in the bearing 16 is a shaftl? to which a bevel gear 18 is attached. rlhe end 19 of this shaft is threaded. Mounted in alinement with the shaft 17 is a shaft 20. This shaft 20 has two threaded openings 23 and 39 extending inward from opp site ends along its axis. The threadedVA end -19 of the shaft 17 makes threaded engagement in either of the two openings 23 or 39 in the shaft 20, serving to support one end of the shaft while the other end of the shaft is supported by the bearing 15. A screw 24 which makes threaded engagement in either of the openings 23 or 39 of the shaft 2O is provided for attaching the plateV 22 to the shaft. From the above it will be seen that the shaft 20 is reversible so that when one Y bearing 27. The operation of this device is very simple. The turbine wheel is connected to any water supply which sets it in operation. This revolves the shaft 20, and the motion of the shaft 20 is conveyed to the shaft 17, gear 18, gear 34 to theV hollow shaft 28 which rotates the brush 30.
Iny disassembling this polishing tool,l the casing section 12 is removed from the bearlustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without'departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Claims:
1. A polishing tool including a lcasing and a driving shaft, said casing being provided with a hollow cylindrical head, a thrust bearing mounted in the bottom of said cylindrical head, a bevel gear rotatably mounted on the thrust bearing, a second bevel gear carried by the driving shaft positioned above the first-mentioned bevel gear, meshing with it and servino' to retain it in position on said Y 4thrust tbearing, a brush rotatably mounted in the casing andpmeans for driving the brush from the bevel gear mounted on the thrust bearing.

A polishing tool includin a casing having a hollow cylindrical hea a bearing located in the bottom of said .hollow cylindrical head, a bevel gear loosely mounted on said bearing, a drive shaft rotatably mounted in the casing, a second bevel lgear mounted on the end of said shaft located above the first-mentioned bevel gear and meshing with it serving to retain it in position on the bearing and a brush rotatably mounted in said hollow cylindrical head and connected to the bevelgear mounted in the bearing located in the bottom of the hollow cylindrical head.

In a polishing tool of the class described, a casing, a polishing brush and a bevel gear mounted on a hollow shaft and spaced from one another, said hollow shaft being mounted on a thrust bearing positioned in the casing, a driving' shaftrotatably mounted in movable bearings positioned in thecasing and extending at right angles to the hollow shaft, and a bevel gear, mounted on the end of the shaft and projecting into the space between the bevel gear and polishing brush, meshing with the bevel gear mounted on thehollow shaft, serving to drive the latter and to retain the hollow shaft in position in the casing 4. A polishing tool, com rising a casin a thrust bearing fixed in t e casing, a ho low shaft rotatably mounted on the thrust bearing, a brush and bevel gear carried by the hollow shaft and spaced apart, the gear being located in the bottom of the casing, a second bevel gear extending between the brush andthe bevel gear mounted on the hollow shaft, said second bevel gear meshing with the bevel gear mounted on the hollow shaft, and a drive shaft mounted in the casing carrying said second bevel gear.
5. Ina polishing tool of the class described, including a casing and a driving shaft, a hollow shaft, a polishing brush, a nipple having a bearing face provided in one end associated with the brush and hollow shaft for attaching the former to the latter, a bevel gear mounted on the lower end of said hollow shaft and s aced from the polishing brush, and a beve gear mounted on the driving shaft projecting into the space between the bevel gear carried by the hollow shaft and the polishing brush meshing with the former.
