The intermittent movement of the ratchet wheel 20 is accomplished by means of therockable member 21 which is rockably mounted on the shaft 14and has pivoted to one of its arms, as at 22, the pawl 23, the end of which pawl is adapted to engage one of the teeth of the ratchet wheel when the rockable member is moved so that the pawl moves forwardly and on a reverse movement of the arm 24 'of' the rockable member, the ratchet Wheel is moved in the direction of the arrow d. Pivoted to the arm 24 as at 25 is an operating bar 26 which opera-ting bar is provided with means 27 whereby the same may be adjusted asto length so as to vary the adjustment of the rockable member 21. The bar 26' is bifurcated as at 28 so as to formspaced arms 2-9 adapted to engage on each sideof the hub of the large gear 10 so that the bar 26 will be guided in its longitudinal movement the cam 30 which is carried by the hub of the gear 10 engages the pivoted roller 31,
which ispivotally mounted'on a pin 32 of the bar'26. It will be seen that as the gear 10; rotates that the cam 30 will come'into engagement with the roller 31, thereby causing the bar 26 to move radially from the center of the gear 10 so that the arm 24 will be forced outwardlyand the pivoted dog 23, which engages one of the teeth of the ratchet and cause said ratchet wheel to rotate. in the direction of the arrow 93. After the cam '30 haspassed the pivoted roller 31 it will be seen that the bar 26 will slide to a position as shown in Fig; 1 so that theintermittent rotation of the ratchet wheel will be repeated. A transversely disposed bar 45 which is carried by the sides 2 of the frame 1 is disposed behind the male die 19 when the same is going through a bending operation so as a form a solid foundation for said male die 19. Secured to a reduced portion 46 of the pintle 38 atone side of the jaw 35 is a lever 47 The arm 48 of which pivotally, connected as at 51 to the large gear 10, at a point nearthe edge of said gear 10, and as the gear 10 rotates the link =1 will force the arm 48 of thelever 47in lever extends upwardly and has connected to its end as at 49 a link 50, which link is the direction of the arrow e which will cause the gripper member 39 to release thebent, strip and at the same time will rock the arm 52 of the lever '47 inthe direction of the arrow 7, until theroller 53 carriedthereby moves upwardly until it clears thearcuatei surface. 54. The feeding and placing of the strips 44. in the pivoted jaw is'preferably done by hand and as the strip rests on a transversely disposed ledge of the female die 41 and as the jaw 35 is in an 7 inclined position, the initial movement of the arm 56 will move the gripping jaw 39 downwardly until it engages the upper edge of the strip 44 thereby holding the same against displacement. The further movement rearwardly of the link 58 will cause the pivoted jaw 35 as a whole to move inwardly until the gripped strip 44 is bent longitudinally by the male die 19 which forces the same into the V-shaped longitudinal recess of the female die 41.
From the above it will be seen that a machine is provided for bending longitudinally strips of metal so that they will be formed substantially V-shaped in cross section'and by slightly varying the shape of the male and female dies, it will be seen that strips V-shaped in cross section may be formed with curves or compound curves so that they may be made to conform to various contour shapes for use in connection with plow share edges. The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is:-
1. A metalbending machine comprising a frame, an endless chain vertically movable in said frame, dies carried by said endless chain, a pivoted jaw pivoted to the frame, said jaw having a die member, means for intermittently moving the chain carried dies and means for moving the pivoted jaw inwardly during a bending operation.
2. A metal bending machine comprising a frame, an endless chain verticallymovable in said frame, a pivoted jaw pivoted to the frame, metal bending *dies carried by the endless chain and by thepivoted jaw, means and means for closing the jaw. during a bending operation and opening the jaw after a bending operation.
3. A metal bending machine comprising a frame, an endless chain vertically movable in said frame, a series of dies equally spaced from each other and carried by said chain, a pivoted jaw pivoted to the frame and providedwith a die, and means operated from a single source of power for moving the endless chain the distance that the dies thereon are spaced apart then moving the pivoted jaw inwardly and then moving the pivoted jaw outwardly at the sirne timethat an ad jacent chain carried die is moved into operative position. 7

A metal bending machine comprising a frame, an endless chain vertically movable in said frame, a series of dies equally spaced from each other and carried by the chain, a pivoted jaw pivoted to the frame, a grip ping device carried by the jaw and adapted to grip and hold apiece of metal, a die car ried by the pivoted jaw and disposed behind the gripping jaw held strip of metal, and means operated from a single source of power for moving the die carrying chain a distance equal to the space between its dies, opening the gripping members, and moving the pivoted jaw outwardly.
5. A metal bending machine comprising a frame, an endless chain vertically movable in said frame, a series of dies equally spaced from each other and carried by the chain, I
a pivoted jaw pivoted to the frame and provided with a die, a holding device carried by the jaw and adapted to hold a piece of metal in registration with the die carried by the jaw, and means operated from a single source of power for intermittently moving the die carrying chain, closing: the pivoted jaw at the same time closing the holding device so as to bend the strip of metal held in the holding device and then open the pivoted jaw.
6. A metal bending machine comprising a frame, an endless chain verticallyfmovable in said frame, a series of dies equally spaced from each other and carried by the chain, a pivoted jaw pivoted to'the frame and provided with a die, aholding device carried by the jaw and adapted to hold a piece of metal in registration with the die carried by the jaw, means whereby power from a single source will close the holding device and the jaw and move the same inwardly against a die carried by the die carrying chain, open the jaw and move the adjacent chain carried die into position to register with the jaw carried die on the next operatiomand means for stripping the bent strips from the chain 7 r carried dies. for intermittently moving the endless chain,
