13, that is to say, its position relative to the axis of the post 12. The ball or hearing member 15 is a detachable element arranged to be removed from the block 14: in order that another bearing memberor block having an opening 28 of a different diameter, can be substituted for receiving a chuck having a larger or smaller shank.
In combination with my improved gage, I employ a multiple paralleling device 29, Figs. 6 and 7 consisting of a'bar or carrier 30 having a slot 31 for the passage therethrough of a binding screw 32, in this instance, carried by the mandrel 33, a locknut 34 being employed to secure the carrier 30 in adjusted positions. The carrier 30 is curved at each end, as at 25 and 36, for
a purpose presently to be described. This paralleling device is adapted'to carry mandrels for tubular or square sockets. I
The carrier 30" supports a plurality of arms 37 and 38 each carrying amandrel 39 held in a triangular oplening40 by a setscrew 41. (See Fig. 9.) The arms 37 and 38 are adjustably secured to the carrier 30 by nuts 42 engaging threaded studs 13 passing through the slot 31. (See Fig. 8.) The arms 37 and 38 are bothradially and horizontally adjustable on the carrier 30. 7 Each nut 42 is counterbored, as at 14, to receive a spring 45 (Fig. 8) for the same purpose as the spring 26 in the counterbore 23 of the fixed post 12. The nut 34 is also provided with a counterbore 46 to receive a spring 47 to act as a binding element for the carrier 30 when the nut 34: is loosened. The paralleling device is used to set in parallelism at one time a number of attachments according to the form of mandrel employed. It can also be used as a caliper to take measurements in the mouth, or for any desirable purpose. The curved ends 35 and 36 of the carrier act to maintain the mandrels 39 in alinement when said mandrels are adjusted to lie adjacent one another at the ends of the carrier, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 7. As many arms 37 and 38 can be employed as may be desirable. As can be seen in Fig. 1 the table 48 of the device is rotatably supported and can also be adjusted vertically and held in adjusted positions by a set-screw 49. It will be apparent in the form of my device herein illustrated, I adjust the table vertically and not the beam 13, as it is a much easier operation and can be effected with a greater degree of accuracy, the chances of play between the parts being reduced to a minimum. 7
Afurther feature of my invention consists of means toset the axis of the chuck 16 in parallelism with the axis of the post 12, or in other words, to position it at a right angle to the table. To accomplish this result, I provide the table with a centrally located socket 50 which extends into the spindle 51 thereof. The axis of the socket 50 will be in parallelism with the axis of the table and post, and the socket will snugly fit the mandrel 27 in the chuck.
To set the chuck in a vertical plane the nut 21 on the post will be loosened and the beam 13 shifted to cause the mandrel to enter the socket by raising the table 48. After the mandrel has been caused to enter the'socket to thefull depth thereof, the setnut 21 will be tightened, thereby locking the beam. The table will now be lowered away from the mandrel. After this opera tion the axis of the chuck will be in exact parallelism with the axis of the post and also with the axis of the table. a
What I -claim as my invention is: I
1. A dental-gage, consisting of a basemember, a post carried thereby, an armadjustably secured to'said post, and a ball-andsocket connection at the outer end of said arm adapted to retain a clutch, whereby the latter can be moved in circular'path in a horizontal plane.
2. A dental-gage, consisting of a basemember, a rotatable vertically movable table carried thereby, a rigid post carried by the base-member, a slidable adjustable arm carried by said post and arranged for rotation in a horizontal plane only, a chuck carried by said arm, and means to adjust said chuck to any angular position relative to the axis of the post. p i
3. A dental-gage consisting of a support ing member, an arm adjustably secured thereto, a block carriedby said arm provided with a socket, a ball within said socket, arranged for rotation thereirna chuck carriedby said ball and means to lock said 105 ball in adjusted positions.
4:. In a dental-gage, a base, a vertical post supported thereby, and a rotatable vertically adj ustable table carried by said base.
5. A dentahgage, comprising a base, a 110 vertical post, an arm supported at the upper end "of said post, means to secure the arm and post together, and means to exert pressure upon the arm when the securing means is loosened. 1
6. A dental-gage, comprising a base, a supporting post, an arm provided with an elongated slot carried by the post, the sup porting post being provided with a counterbore,'*a spring in said counterbore bearing 120 against said arm, and a set-screw passing through the slot in the arm and securing the arm and post together.
7. A dental-gage, comprising a vertical supporting post,an arm adjustably secured 125 thereto, a block on said arm having a socket therein, a! ball in said socket adapted for universal rotation therein and provided with an opening to receive a chuck, means carried by the block to lock the ball in adjusted 130 positions, and a set-screw passing through the block and into the opening in the ball and 1loearing against a chuck carried by the bloc 8. 9. A paralleling device for dental-jigs, comprising a carrier having a slot curved for a portion of its length, a plurality of arms slidably mounted in said slot, and means for securing the arms in adjusted positions.
10. A paralleling attachment fordental-- gages, comprising a slotted carrier, a plurality of arms slidably secured thereto, a tensioning spring interposed between the carrier and said securing means, to exert pressure upon each arm When the securing i means is loosened, a mandrel having a threaded post passing through theslot in the carrier, means for securing the mandrel t the carrier, and a spring interposed between the carrier and mandrel securing means to exert pressure upon the carrier When the mandrel securing means is loosened.
' 11. In a dental-gage, a chuck, a vertical supporting post, a horizontally disposed arm adjustably secured to said supporting post, a table adjacent said chuck, and means carried by the table toposition said chuck at a right angle to said table.
12. In a dental-gage, a support, a chuck adjustably secured thereto, and means independent of the chuck support to position the axis of the chuck in a vertical plane.
13. In a dental-gage, a vertically movable table provided With a vertically disposed socket, a chuck adj ustably mounted adjacent said table, and a mandrel carried by the chuck arranged to snugly fit the socket in the table for the purpose set forth, the axis of said socket being in parallelism With the axis of the table.
