Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing a photographic Image, especially a copy of one in electronic form Template by exposure of the image information of the template on a strip photographic copying material according to the preambles of the independent claims.
Digital imaging devices on a photographic basis, so-called digital photographic Printer, create images or copies by exposing the image information the underlying template, available in electronically stored form a photosensitive copying material. One way to do this is by image information the template by means of a suitable electro-optical, pixel-wise working To represent the converter organ optically, i.e. an optical representation to generate the original, and this visual representation of the original on the copy material depict and thereby expose. As an electro-optical converter element both active (self-illuminating) and passive (modulating) electro-optical arrangements in question; typical examples are cathode ray tubes, liquid crystal cell fields, light emitting diode fields operated in transmission or reflection, Electroluminescent cell fields and recently also so-called digital micromirror fields.
With a decisive factor for the quality of the photographic produced in this way Images or copies is the resolution (number of pixels) of the electro-optical used Converter device. While sufficiently high resolution small converter organs are available at economically reasonable prices economically producible and commercially usable large-area converter elements appropriate resolution in the early stages. With the available converter elements can therefore only produce relatively small-format images with satisfactory quality getting produced.
By line-by-line or strip-wise exposure in the direction transverse to the Theoretically, lines or strips can produce photographic images of any size. in this connection are successively only strip-shaped, in their longitudinal direction the entire Sections of the template covering the template are visually by means of the converter element shown and successively in a corresponding spatial assignment on the copy material exposed onto. The correct spatial arrangement of the exposed strips becomes by exposure of the copy material to the exposure beam path causes. The latter can be done by feeding the copy material or can be achieved by a correspondingly movable imaging optics. The relative offset of course takes place synchronously with the change of the shown strips of Template. If the stripes are several lines wide, the adjacent ones can Stripes also overlap. Since the copy material depends on the degree of overlap is exposed several times, this must be taken into account when measuring the amount of copy light individual exposure steps are taken into account accordingly. This exposure process is common under the name TIG (Time Integration Grayscale) known.
In Längsrichtung (pro Reihe bzw. For this method of line-wise or strip-wise exposure, comparative can be use inexpensive linear converter elements. Below that are rectangular Understand transducer element arrangements (fields) whose width is significantly smaller than the length is. In extreme cases, such a linear converter element has only one Row (row) of transducer elements, but typically up to several hundred Series. In the longitudinal direction (per row or row) there is a linear one In contrast, the transducer element typically has a thousand or more transducer elements. Of course can also use wider converter elements (with a higher number of rows) not all rows (i.e. not the full width) are used have to.
The methods described above can be used using the commercially available Transducer organs only produce qualitatively satisfactory photographic images if the format of the image to be produced in the longitudinal direction of the exposed Strip is relatively small. For larger image formats in the other dimension too is sufficient to dissolve the commercially available and economically justifiable converter elements however, in many cases not.
Vervielfachung der Auflösung, so dass auch mit herkömmlichen Wandlerorganen sehr grossformatige Bilder mit befriedigender Qualität erzeugt werden können.EP-A-0 986 243 describes an improved method in which the Resolution of the photographic image created by dividing the length of each strip-shaped sections of the template in two or more sections and is achieved by appropriate piecewise exposure. Since this is the full length of the converter element only for the representation of a section is used, results in - in the longitudinal direction of the strips - according to the number Sub-sections a doubling or multiplication of the resolution, so that too with conventional converter organs very large format images with satisfactory Quality can be generated.
The present invention is intended to show an alternative way how a method and a device of the generic type improved can be that without much additional technical effort Larger-sized images can be produced in a satisfactory quality in an economical manner are. In particular, this should be done using commercially available and economically justifiable Converter organs may be possible, i.e. there should not be any special, higher resolution ones or larger and correspondingly more expensive converter elements may be required.
The solution to this problem underlying the invention results from the im characterizing part of the independent claims described features of Method according to the invention and the device according to the invention.
According to the main idea of the invention, the transducer element is thus rotated through 45 ° in the imaging beam path, so that the stripe-shaped visual representation of the stripe-shaped sections of the original comes to lie in the diagonal (of the usable area) of the optical transducer element. This rotated arrangement of the optical transducer element according to the invention results in a resolution which is about a factor of 2½ (∼1.4) higher in both dimensions compared to the classic arrangement and thus the possibility of achieving larger image formats with conventional, commercially available transducer elements without sacrificing quality.
Particularly advantageous refinements and developments of the invention are shown in the dependent claims.

For the following it is assumed that the submission from which a physical photographic image or a copy to be made, in electronic form saved. Comprising all of the brightness and color information for each individual pixel of the original to be copied Image information of the template is in a memory 1 (Fig.6), from which it by means of a control 2 (FIG. 6) separated pixel by pixel and, if necessary, according to color components is available. Analog is below the image information of a strip-shaped section the entirety of the brightness and color information of those template pixels of the template to understand the stripe-shaped portion of the subject Belong to submission.
A erzeugt.
aufbelichtet (Fig. 1).
P aufbelichtet ist (Fig.3).Figures 1-3 illustrate what is known, for example, from EP-A-0 986 243 and therein
Principle of line or strip-shaped described in greater detail
Aufbelichtung. The through the total of all stored brightness and
Color information for each of its pixels represented is included
V denotes. The controller shown in FIG. 6 reads the image information of a first one
strip-shaped section A of the template V and thus controls a pixel by pixel
working electro-
As can be seen, the strip-shaped sections A of the template are not seamless side by side, but they overlap to a large extent (across to their Longitudinal direction). As a result, those exposed on the copying material P are also exposed Stripes overlap, the copy material P depending on the degree of overlap is exposed several times. This multiple exposure is taken into account that the brightness values of the individual pixels of the optical representations D of sections A (possibly color-selective) reduced accordingly by the control be so that the copying material acting on the respective pixels Total copy light quantities are correct again. This exposure method is commonly known as TIG (Time Integration Grayscale).
As already mentioned, for the strip-wise exposure it is necessary that one Relative movement between the strip-shaped exposure area E and the copying material P is done. In the example above, this is done by a corresponding one Feeding the copy material P. Alternatively, and particularly useful the relative movement can also be achieved by moving the imaging optics can be achieved, with the copy material during the entire exposure remains stationary. The principle of such a movable imaging optics is 6 and shown in detail in EP-A-0 986 243 already mentioned.
In principle, any pixel-wise working, active or passive type can be used. Examples of this are, as already mentioned, cathode ray tubes, light emitting diode fields, electroluminescent fields or Liquid crystal panels. However, so-called digital micromirror fields are particularly advantageous (DMD = Digital Mirror Device), as e.g. also in large screen projection devices be used. A typical one suitable for the purposes of the invention digital micromirror field comprises an arrangement of 1280 on a chip x 1024 mirrors that are selectively defined between two by electrical control Tilt positions can be pivoted back and forth.
Such micromirror fields are naturally operated in reflection, so they are passive. They are in practical use, as can also be seen in FIG. 6 and in the EP-A-0 986 243, already mentioned, is shown and explained in detail, for example in front of the pupil of an imaging lens that the micromirrors act upon them Light in one tilt position in the imaging lens and in the other Steer the tilt position past the pupil of the imaging lens. The intensity modulation the reflected light is based on the stored image information the template by intermittent control of the micromirrors with the corresponding Duty cycle. Structure, control techniques and possible applications Such digital micromirror fields are in the relevant publications the manufacturer, e.g. from Texas Instruments, Houston, Texas, USA, in Described in detail and are not the subject of the present invention.
Up to this point, the method according to the invention corresponds to the prior art and so far requires no further explanation.
Hier setzt nun die Erfindung an.As can be seen, the length of the strip-shaped,
the entire width of the template covering sections A of the length (the

According to the most basic idea of the invention, the
The rotated arrangement of the
Integration Grayscale) spielt dies jedoch keine Rolle. As illustrated in FIG. 5, this is for the strip-like representation
Section A of template V exploited display area D of the
With the rotated arrangement of the
Die Steuerung 2 ist selbstverständlich entsprechend angepasst.FIG. 6 shows a basic diagram of the device according to the invention. The
The device comprises the already mentioned
The higher resolution achieved according to the invention means that there are no major additional ones technical effort even larger format pictures in satisfactory quality can be produced economically. In particular, this is more commercially available and economically justifiable converter elements possible, i.e. there are none special, higher resolution or larger and correspondingly more expensive converter elements required.
