Bei Rohlingen, die aus einem sehr teuren Werkstoff, wie beispielsweise die erwähnten Me tallegierungen oder Edelmetallen bestehen, entfällt ein hoher Anteil der Rohlingskosten auf den verbleibenden, für die Prothese nicht mehr verwendbaren Rückstand.
