O'Meara nominated Hawthorn as his club of choice on Tuesday, ending weeks of speculation after he decided to leave the Suns, with Essendon and North Melbourne also interested.

Carey told Triple M's The Rub that the Hawks will need to part with something substantial in order to satisfy Gold Coast's demands for O'Meara and that Breust was the name he had been hearing on the grapevine.

"They're going to have to give a few things away and the players that have currency are the players that have played in premierships," Carey said.

"I'm hearing that Luke Breust has been told, which I found very surprising, he got told during the week that if a deal could be done that he may be one of the ones (up for trade)."

O'Meara, 22, won the Rising Star in his first season in 2013, but has only played 44 games because of various injury issues.
