Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has declared that ‘parma’ is the correct shorthand term for chicken parmigiana.

The debate between ‘parma’ and ‘parmi’ has been hotly contested for a long time, so Andrews decided that it was time to take it to the people.

He ran a poll on his Facebook page for 24 hours, and 32,700 respondents voted overwhelmingly for parma - 81% to 19%.

Today he dropped a press release saying that parma is now “the correct shorthand term” for parmigiana.

Andrews said he will make an official exemption from the decision for the Geelong, Surf Coast and Bellarine Peninsula region, “with an expert analysis identifying a strong and localised preference in the Barwon region for ‘parmi’ or ‘parmy’,” according to the press release.

“We believe in giving all Victorians a say and respecting the wishes of locals, which is why Geelong pubs will keep serving parmis,” Andrews said.

There’s no word yet on where Andrews stands on the divisive potato cake v scallop issue.
