A 61-year-old man from Rosebud on the Mornington Peninsula southeast of Melbourne, and his 45-year-old friend from Mount Evelyn on Melbourne's eastern fringe were taken to hospital following the incident.

Victims of Crimes Commissioner Greg Davies told the Herald Sun he would 'like to see the AFL ban (those responsible) from going to the football for life' and said the character of such street fights was becoming more vicious.

'It's alien to anyone over the age of 40,' Mr Davies said.

'If one of their mates kicked someone in a fight, they'd be wiped like a runny nose. Nowadays, it seems to be de rigueur.'
