Harry Redknapp tells talkSPORT: ‘Tottenham are far better than Manchester United – why would Mauricio Pochettino want to leave?’

Former Spurs boss and King of the Jungle says the Argentine has a better chance of winning a trophy if he remains at the north London club

Harry Redknapp has questioned why Mauricio Pochettino would want to leave Tottenham to become Manchester United manager when he has a far superior team at Spurs.

The King of the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ Jungle joined talkSPORT on Wednesday to react to the reports linking the Argentine with the top job at Old Trafford.

United have appointed club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager until the end of the season, and will look to hire their next permanent boss in the summer.

Speculation over who will take over is in full flow already, with some reports claiming Zinedine Zidane has already agreed a deal with United, while others suggest Pochettino ‘wants to be considered’ for the role.

The Argentine boss refused to comment on the rumours on Tuesday, and insisted he is fully focused on his job at Spurs.

And former Tottenham manager Redknapp said Pochettino has a better chance of winning trophies with his current Spurs team than if he joined in-crisis United.

“He’s done a great job at Tottenham,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“I love him. I like his character and his personality and he gets the best out of his players.

“Would be leave Spurs to go to Manchester United at the moment?

“He’s got a better team at Tottenham, by far.

“I think Daniel Levy is looking after him very well, he’s got to be up there with the top wage earners and he maybe sees Tottenham as a team he can win trophies with.

“Man United is a massive club, but I think in his situation when he’s building such a good team at Tottenham – there’s a lot of work to be done at Man United to build a good team. Where do you find the players, it’s getting more and more difficult.

“They are way short of being anywhere near the top couple of teams at the moment.”
