The Everton defender has struggled to live up to expectations since moving to Merseyside.
Everton boss Marco Silva addressed the media today, ahed of his side’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday, and insisted that he expects to see more consistent from Yerry Mina in training before he starts to play regularly, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
The Colombia international joined the Toffees from Barcelona in the summer of 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £25.6 million, according to BBC Sport, but he has struggled to establish himself at Goodsion Park, making just eight Premier League starts thus far.
Much was expected of the 6ft 5in centre-back when he arrived at Everton, but as things stand, he has struggled to adapt to the ferocious pace and intensity of the Premier League.
And Silva told reporters how Mina needs to show more consistency day-in, day-out during training sessions, if he is to nail down a regular starting spot in the Blues side, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:
“I have to see more consistency, daily, at Finch Farm. I hope to see him working everyday until the end of the season. It is first season in the PL, it is completely different to everything else in his career.”
Mina is obviously a very talented player, and it does seem a little harsh to judge him before he has even played a full season in the Premier League, but whether he will come good for Everton in the future still remains to be seen.
