Cairns beach closed after confirmed crocodile sighting

LIFEGUARDS have made the call to close a Far North beach today following several reports of crocodile sightings.

A CAIRNS beach has been closed due to a confirmed crocodile sighting.

Lifeguards at Palm Cove made the call to close the beach this morning following several reports of crocodile sightings in the area.

Surf Lifesaving Queensland North Queensland Regional manager Rob Davidson said the red flags were flying at the beach and beachgoers were urged to please stay away from the area.

“The beach has been closed all morning,” he said.

“There’s been multiple reports of sightings and although we haven’t seen the croc, one of the reported sightings is from a credible source.

“As a result we have decided to close the beach just as a caution.”

Mr Davidson said the beach would reopen this afternoon if there are no other crocodile sightings.
