If any organisaiton is up-to-date on the strange food preferences of Australians, it’s food-delivery service Menulog, which recently discovered that a quarter of all Australians identify the smell of hot chips as their all-time favourite food scent. Additionally, more than 3.5 million servings of chips are ordered on Menulog in Australia each week.

This very important research also reveals that more than 10 per cent of millennials have immediately ordered chips from their smartphone after smelling them. One in five millennials say the smell triggers a fear of seagulls stealing their snacks.

We can’t speak to the veracity of these statistics, but we’re pleased to report that Menulog will be handing out free serves of chips on Wednesday May 29 at World Square. The exact location is a secret, so chip-lovers will need to follow their noses – the scent of hot chips will be dispersed around the city, using “scent machines”. Once they’ve found the hot-chip shop, they’ll need to ask “Did somebody say Menulog?” to receive their free fries (we’re sorry).
