Weather guide
There’s always something to see and do, no matter what the weather, but here are some helpful tips for when it’s really hot, raining or really cold.
Cold days
Pack your beanies and scarves, the zoo is a great place to visit on cold days when it’s a little quieter. There are also some places you shouldn’t miss:
- The Butterfly House (it’s always warm in there!)
- Snow Leopards
- Seals
- Asian Elephants
- Meerkats
When you’re ready to warm up inside, head over to Keeper Kids for some games of dress up and stories to read.
Rainy days
You can avoid the crowds on rainy days while also seeing lots of animals play in the rain. If you want to stay out of the rain, visit these under-cover exhibits or play spaces:
- The Butterfly House
- Reptile House
- Orangutan Sanctuary
- Gorillas (see the lookout next to the Tree-top Apes and Monkeys)
- Tigers (on Carnivores’ Trail)
- Snow Leopards
- Asian Elephants for their 11am wash in the barn
Don’t forget to head inside to Keeper Kids for some play time too!
Hot days
Many of our animals thrive in the heat or like to go swimming when it’s hot. Make sure you visit these animals:
- Asian Elephants
- Gorillas
- Giraffes
- Seals
- Penguins
- Sumatran Tigers
- Orangutans
- Giant Tortoises
If you need a break from the heat, head to Keeper Kids or the Reptile House for some fun outside of the sun and don’t forget to pick up an ice cream from one of the zoo shops.
When it’s more than 25 degrees, the water play area near the Reticulated Python will be turned on so remember to pack your bathers.
