Numbers don't lie. We are in the modern era where the gentlemen's game is played on another level but batsmen are still finding it hard to get close to the individual brilliance Sir Donald George Bradman used to possess in his record-breaking career. Born on 27th August 1908, Bradman is hailed as the greatest batsman to have played the gentlemen's game. An icon to modern-day greats and a tycoon for the fans, Bradman's supreme batting average of 99.94 in Test cricket is something that will remain unprecedented for years to come.

Even after 71 years of his retirement, Bradman's average record has remained shatterproof and will continue to do so is until and unless the ICC tweaks some of the boundary rules to make batting more comfortable for batsmen, who are breathing in the review and powerplay era. Under Bradman's captainship, Australia became the invincibles in 1948 at a time when the legendary batsman was completing his fourth and final tour to England.

The Australian federal government considers Bradman and Co. of the time as most cherished sporting legends. Bradman often referred to as The Don, championed cricket at a time when his nation was going through the Great Depression. The Aussie batting legend polishing his skills with a single stump and gold ball is still part of the Aussie folklore till this date.

Bradman was never stumped in his career and in his 80 innings, he managed to net 6,996 runs at an average every fan of the gentlemen's game is familiar with. As the whole world celebrates the 111th birth anniversary of the Don, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar also paid a rich tribute to the great Don Bradman with a generous tweet.

"A lot of people remember Sir Don Bradman for his extraordinary batting; I remember him more for his graciousness and sense of humour that I experienced when I had the privilege of spending some time with him in 1998," he tweeted.

The former Aussie icon, who has been the muse for cricket's past and future had earlier praised the Little Master by revealing that Sachin's batting style often reminds him of his playing days. "I saw him playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I asked my wife to come and take a look at him. Now I never saw myself play, but I feel that this player is playing much the same as I used to play, and she looked at him on television and said yes, there is a similarity between the two, his compactness, technique, stroke production; it all seemed to gel," Bradman had said about Tendulkar.
