Former Australia cricketer Michael Hussey has revealed the reason he became a left-handed batter in his childhood days. Till the age of eight, Hussey used to bat right-handed. The Western Australian made his international debut in 2004 and retired in 2013. He made his ODI debut in 2004 and played his last in 2012. In this period, he played 185 games and amassed 5442 runs averaging 48.15 including three hundred and 39 fifties.

The 2007 World Cup winner made his Test debut in 2005 and played his last in 2013. In this period, he played 79 games and accumulated 6235 runs averaging 51.52 including 19 hundred and 29 fifties. Talking about his T20I career, international and leagues, the Perth-born player has played 161 games and has 4569 runs to his name averaging 37.45 including a hundred and 39 fifties.

Meanwhile, Chennai team batting coach in the Indian T2O League has revealed the reason for the change in his batting style. He said that he was a big fan of former Australia skipper Allan Border when he latter used to play for the country.

"My cricketing hero was Allan Border, who is a left-handed batsman from Australia, and I can tell you a funny little story. When I was about eight or nine years of age until then I was a right handed batsman. But, I loved Allan Border so much that I changed to be a left handed batsman like Allan Border.

"I loved the way he played his cricket, he was tough, he never gave his wicket away he worked very hard, played with a lot of passion, so he was certainly my hero growing up," said Michael Hussey as quoted by On Manorama.
