Actor Kevin Spacey may bring his once-popular Netflix character to life more than ever after suggesting — as Frank Underwood — he may have to run for president next year as a “sacrifice” for the people during a confusing Christmas Eve interview with Tucker Carlson.

The former “House of Cards” star covered a slew of topics in an interview with the former Fox News anchor that aired on Sunday, Dec. 24. Spacey has been known to deliver such holiday videos over the years.

For this one, Spacey was in character during the entire seven-minute video with Carlson, portraying Frank Underwood, even looking at the camera occasionally and speaking directly to the viewer as he did on the popular Netflix show that aired 2013-2018.

Spacey, still in character, referred to being fired by Netflix, which produced “House of Cards,” after multiple sexual assault accusations against him surfaced. During that portion of the interview, Spacey took credit for Netflix’s trademark opening “tu-dum” sound effect. He also said allegations against him are not true.

“It is bizarre that they decided to publicly cut ties with me on allegations alone, allegations that have now been proven false,” he said. “Netflix exists because of me. I put them on the map and they tried to put me in the ground.”

The allegations eventually led to Spacey’s character, politician and eventual president, Frank Underwood, being written out of the show in 2018.

Spacey, who was acquitted of nine charges stemming from allegations of sexual misconduct in the United Kingdom that surfaced in 2017, was found not guilty by a London jury this July.

But perhaps the biggest mic drop from the interview was when the now-publicly disgraced actor, or at least Frank Underwood, expressed his interest in running for president. Spacey, who delivered annual Christmas Eve videos from 2018-2020, the first two in character as Frank Underwood, implied he’s considering a potential 2024 run.

Carlson said it is nearly impossible for a new candidate to throw their hat in the ring now, but he also said Spacey (or Underwood?) could be the only person who could jump in and throw a wrench in the political plans.

“There may be someone. And in fact, you already know him — you know his face,” Carlson said ahead of introducing Spacey-as-Underwood. “The question is, will he get in this cycle?”

In response to the question, Spacey said it would truly be up to the people. But the actor said he believes that essentially nothing is completely off the table.

“I think we could both agree that we need to get some adults back in the room,” Spacey said. “So if that means taking on the chief executive role, well, that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for this great nation.”

The pair sort of acknowledged the confusing nature of the video after Carlson asked Spacey/Underwood when he will go back to work.

“Oh, I’ve been back to work from the moment we started talking, Tucker,” Spacey said, to which Carlson asked if the interview is a television episode or real.

“Well, it’s probably a little of both,” Spacey said. “I mean, Tucker, what’s true? What’s false? What’s life? What’s art? What’s real? What’s performance? I love it when these things intersect, because then it gets interesting.”

The actor later concluded the interview by saying, “We need someone in the White House who’s not afraid, like me — not afraid to push our country or a journalist in the right direction if it comes to that.”
