Balarama Jayanti 2021: Balarama was the elder brother of Lord Krishna. However, the birth anniversary of Lord Balarama is observed as Balarama Jayanti. In some parts of the country, Balarama Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Akshaya Tritiya while in various other regions, people observe Balarama Jayanti on the Shravan Purnima.


Some devotees also celebrate Balaram Jayanti in the month of Vaisakh which falls either in May or April according to the Gregorian calendar.

This day is also known as Hal Sashti and Lalahi Chhath in North India. In the Braj region, this day is popularly known as Baladeva Chhath and in Gujarat, this day is observed as Randhan Chhath.

Like every other Hindu festival on this day also devotes wake up early in the morning, take a bath and start preparing for the Puja. The devotees who observe a fast on this day are abstained from eating until noontime.

The idols of Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram are placed decorated with flowers and new clothes. The devotees even prepare 'bhog' which is offered to the deity and then distributed among all the family, friends and neighbours in the form of sacred food.

As per the Hindu scriptures, Lord Balarama is also worshipped as an Avatar of Adishesha, the serpent on which Lord Vishnu rests. Balarama is also known as Baladeva, Balabhadra and Halayudha. This day is observed by devotees with the purpose to receive a healthy life with physical strength.
