DC has confirmed the title and release date of the sequel to Robert Pattinson's The Batman.

Pattinson will don the cape and cowl again for The Batman Part II, which will hit cinemas on October 3, 2025. Matt Reeves will return to write and direct the sequel.

The news was part of a slew of updates from new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran as they officially unveiled the new slate of the DC Universe.

The pair also confirmed that The Batman Part II will be separate to the main timeline, and will form part of DC Elseworlds.

There's also another new Batman movie on the way: The Brave and the Bold, which Gunn said will be the "introduction of the DCU Batman". The film is confirmed to also introduce Bruce's son Damian Wayne as the new Robin.

As for Superman, it was announced that Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025. Gunn is penning the script, although he may not be sitting in the director's chair.

Superman: Legacy is intended to reintroduce Clark Kent, with Safran saying: "It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing." He added that Superman will struggle with being kind "in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned".

In October 2022, it was officially announced that Gunn and Safran would become the co-CEOs of DC Studios following the merger between Discovery and Warner Bros.

The changes in the DC Universe — with names such as Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Superman actor Henry Cavill exiting — has led to some backlash from fans, which Gunn addressed last month.

"One of the things Peter & I were aware of when we took the job as heads of DC Studios was a certain minority of people online that could be, well, uproarious & unkind, to say the least," he wrote on Twitter.

"Our choices for the DCU are based upon what we believe is best for the story & best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years. Perhaps these choices are great, perhaps not, but they are made with sincere hearts & integrity & always with the story in mind."
