A brave swimmer has saved a pregnant shark that was trapped in a rock pool at a popular beach.

The shark was spotted swimming slow laps in the Oak Park rock pool at Cronulla Beach in Sydney before Ben Denning jumped in and scooped her out.

Mr Denning was having a paddleboarding session from Darook Park to Oak Park when he heard a noise coming from the rock pool, as reported by The Daily Telegraph

'I looked at my mate and we thought, oh, let's do it – we grabbed it and pulled it out,' he said.

People began to gather around the pool as the pregnant shark was safely released back into the ocean.

Denning said he had never handled a shark before but described the experience as exciting.

He said other beach goers were also thrilled with the discovery while some were 'a bit emotional because the shark was pregnant and getting in a bit of a panic.'

This isn't the first rescue story to come from the popular Sydney beach.

Back in 2017, footage of real estate agent Melissa Hatheier saving a Port Jackson shark from the same rock pool went viral.

After that, Hatheier was dubbed the Shark wrangler and now it seems Denning may have adopted the same title.
