Former deputy tax commissioner Michael Cranston has pleaded not guilty over charges of using his influence to dishonestly help his son.

Mr Cranston entered the formal plea at Sydney's District Court on Monday morning ahead of the court empanelling a jury this week to hear the criminal charges.
