PwC has defended its use of legal professional privilege after the Australian Taxation Office booked a showdown with the consulting giant in the Federal Court over its work for JBS, the world's biggest meat producer.

The Tax Office filed a claim against PwC and JBS on June 2 over documents they refused to hand over because of lawyer-client confidentiality.
