After stalking photos of this place for over a year, I'm happy to say Yelp came through with finding a group of people who weren't pussies! It was all that I hoped it would be. Not as creepy as I thought, since all the 'creepiness' is fabricated leftovers from filming locations.
It helped to have 20 other people wandering the hospital as well.
Two hours in this place was a great little introduction to the building, as it's 6 floors and a little overwhelming. I would happily check this place out again now that I know my way around... this time with fully charged batteries!

Place has been completely renovated and made into a senior living. Stopped in today to see about filming here but was informed many of the cool photos were actually sets made to look like a "horror" and "haunt s" place. Disappointed it's not avail to film here anymore but think the history is really cool.

Got a broken bone, a severe cut, stomach ache or chest pains? Don't come looking for help from this Hospital. It's been long since closed down and abandon. But that's the beauty of this place.
Besides, if you had an aliment that was bothering you, I wouldn't come here unless you were planning on becoming one of the perminant residents.. BAW HA HA HA HA. hack... cough! cough! cough! Sorry, had something in my throat with that evil laughter. This place is suppose to be haunted, and if you had any small hint of fear of ghost and things that go bump in the night, this place will scare you.
Located across the street from the Hollenback park this Hospital gives off a strange feeling. At night you can often see lights in rooms flickering as it's clear the juice isn't turned off even though it's been closed since 1990. Quick history is that it was opened for the railroad workers nearby and served the community and on occasion Howard Hughes till it closed the doors. Many speculative rumors float around as to why it closed. Urban legend and myth tossed in just to add spice ranging from too high death rate to the scary reality that it couldn't keep its doors open in a poor neighborhood?
But before the time of death was called for this hospital the film industry shocked it back to some sort of second life as a filming location. Filming is constantly done here and you can see it in such films as Outbreak, End of days, Pearl Harbor, Boogeyman 2 and the pilot for E.R.
Now it's "closed to the public" but that just means you can't simply walk in off the streets, though telling from the graffiti covering the walls of most of the rooms, most have just come in off the street. The times I've done location scouting for potential shorts and small budget films here I called the contact number and requested access to the place. Their response was "The place is open, so go right ahead." from the land's caretaker. So I'm sure you can get in without anyone's okay, but it doesn't hurt to call and simply act like you're finding a location to film.
What you will find inside.. Is really creepy. And while I don't tend to believe in ghost or that sort of thing, I have to give this place credit for creeping me the hell out. As seen from the pictures, if you don't get some sort of odd feeling being in here, even when I was fully allowed and on the clock lighting a production, the mood was very much eerie. A lot of the equipment that is in here is either left behind from when the hospital closed or from the many scary B movies that filmed here. While I pointed out some of those better known films, I've seen this location used for some of the most terrible B and C level horror films.
There's a boiler room and crematorium. dark hallways with lights still running that do not in the least provide any means of proper lighting to get anything but freaked the hell out by. It is straight out of a zombie film on how empty it is and how it will rattle even the toughest nerves.
In 2006 this empty hospital was going to be turned into nice apartment lofts called Buena Vista Lofts but it seems that the project lost funding or simply fell through as we're here two years later and no movement on the project. So the ghost wont be getting any new roommates anytime soon.
This place is great for Urban exploration and a chance to see a historical location. Also to get the hell scared out of you. I've been here both on an official and unofficial capacity and every time I get a bit freaked out as if something is looking at me. And again, while it's not adverstised as welcoming the average joe, I've never had an issue with them not wanting me in there. It's Los Angeles ruins that you should see and be frightened by. Ghost stories or not, it's really creepy.Helpful 35Thanks 0Love this 36Oh no 0 - Albert E.Orange County, CA1574294483May 11, 2010
I was invited and privileged to take pictures at the abandoned and supposedly haunted Linda Vista Community Hospital in Los Angeles, CA (Boyle Heights area).
As I understand, not just anyone can roam free like we were able to....a very special Thank You to fellow Yelper Roo S for organizing this.
This abandoned hospital is often used for filming many movies and cable television shows. A few times, I saw a few film call sheets in few of the rooms for some films dating back to 2005.
As I wrote this.....I also decided to watch the episode of "Ghost Adventures - Season II" about the Linda Vista Hospital.....OMG.....I am CREEPED out - if your interested, search on YouTube for the "Ghost Adventures - Linda Vista Hospital" and watch the 1/2 hour episode.
I took pictures in the fake morgue and original morgue, autopsy room, boiler room, basement, surgical, mental wards, patient rooms, etc. Often times walking through the hospital, the only way to get there was to use a flashlight...example the basement, morgue and autopsy room.
Although the hospital is now one big film prop, I still found myself walking through the hospital often feeling strange. Walking through the many dark rooms and hallways still gave me the chills that cannot be explained.
These are a few of the pictures I took through the eyes of my camera....click on below link:

What's that you say?
You're looking for a film location to make your next slasher / porno / horror / fetish / bukkake film?!?!
Well dammit... head on over to Linda Vista Hospital!
An old abandoned hospital built in the 1920's with enough spookiness to go around it'll make ya wet your pants...
... well... if you're into that sort of thing.
Talk to the grounds keeper and you can rent the place out by the hour.
It's not so bad during the day. At night?
... I dunno yet. We'll see.

When I was a young kid in the early 70s I lived around the corner from the hospital, I remember the broiler smoke stacks knowing that remains were being cremated? I can still remember how the lobby looks, my grandma was a patient there 1972 that hospital freaked me out.

I was in major pain due to kidney stones, so I hauled ass here. The nurses looked a bit strange and when the doctor came by to give me a shot to help dissolve the stones, He poked me in the eye with his finger and disappeared. I ended up going to a VA hospital for treatment.

Linda Vista is my mistress. There have been weeks where I spend more time with her than my own home - this is considered a good week.
There is a lot of rumor and myth surrounding LV, which is on the National Register Of Historic Places - first off, the hospital is not "abandoned." It is a fully operational business with a full time caretaker, and guards that live on the premises. It is frequently used as a filming location, but the general public CAN get in thanks to the owners/management and the Boyle Heights Paranormal Project, who sometimes host tours and movie nights there.
The hospital is also open to established paranormal research teams/organizations.
The history of the century old building is fascinating in itself, but being there, walking the halls and exploring the many rooms defies adjectives. If you get a chance go - GO! - you'll always remember it!
FYI security is currently very tight and numerous cameras have been installed of late - so, do not try to sneak in - the management recently released the following info, too - "What was once a Misdemeanor Tresspassing charge will now be Commercial Burglary, since the act of entering without the owners consent makes it a financial loss to said ownership of the location, which makes it a felony one complaint."Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Olivia A.Montebello, CA37292Jun 10, 2011
I worked here back in the 80's for 5 years. Sorry people but this place is not haunted. It originally was a hospital for the Santa Fe railroad employees before it was bought by a medical management company. It was a typical medical facility. I've heard stories that it was once a psychiatric facility and horrible things used to happen here, but sorry folks not true. Back when I was working here, part of the hospital was used as a filming location. Many movies have been filmed here like Crossroads with Ralph Macchio as well as TV series such as Barretta and House Calls. It was once a beautiful facility, built I believe in the 20's. It's a shame it was never maintained. But I guess the creepy look helps to make the ghost stories more believable.
Someone also mentioned a separate building was used as an asylum. Nope, that was the dorms for the nursing students. The hospital used to be a teaching facility for nurses.
I have to say though, that this was the best place I've ever worked at. There are good memories there for me.Helpful 40Thanks 0Love this 20Oh no 0
