A handout photo made available by the Seoul Metropolitan Government shows Insa-dong, Seoul, South Korea, on September 13, 2020. Insa-dong is a neighborhood that epitomizes traditional Korean culture and heritage. It is one of the most visited places by international tourists who are looking for an authentic experience in Korea. Along the main street, some alleys branch out and intertwine like a maze. Discover and explore the hidden wonders of traditional culture in places all around Insa-dong, including art galleries, traditional craft shops, antique art shops, traditional tea houses, traditional restaurants, and cafes. Take a stroll around, and you will come across eye-catching goods, such as traditional fans, calligraphic works, and Korean paintings, especially at Ssamzigil and Anyoung Insadong. Seoul designated Insa-dong had a conventional culture street in 1988 and as the city’s first cultural district in 2002 to preserve the historical and cultural value and promote and develop its unique features. Moreover, Insa-dong has been designated a car-free street on the weekends, serving as a pedestrian-friendly cultural space for citizens.
