How do I know my baby is okay between prenatal visits?

I am 14 weeks and 4 days today. I have been feeling better than ever. All my M/S are gone, energy is back and I don't feel pregnant at all.   I am going crazy here search for answers, if my baby is ok and signs of M/C.   I know I shouldn't be worried, but I just cannot get over that there might be something wrong.

This is driving me crazy!!!

  • I'm 13 weeks & I worry like crazy between appointments. I'm actually borrowing a doppler from my friend so I can listen to the baby between OB visits. Try not to worry but believe me I know it's not easy.

  • There really isn't a sure way to know. I know that isn't helpful. I haven't had morning sickness at all and I haven't really felt pregnant, but each checkup and proven that everything is fine. (I'm 13 w 2 d).

I think it will be hard until we can feel the baby move. I know some people get a doppler for at home to listen to the heartbeat for peace of mind. I don't plan on doing that though.

I guess this is sort of "welcome to motherhood." We will now worry about our children for the rest of their lives! haha.

  • Keastman, I am not planning on getting a doppler either. I guess I just have to stop thinking those crazy things. Reading people having miscarriage is not helping either. ahh.... I wish I can feel baby's movements soon!!!

  • First Born, I know I shouldn't be worried....it just so hard not to when everything seems normal. HAHAHHAHAHHA....

  • It's normal to start feeling great around 14 weeks! My M/S went away at about 12 weeks, and my energy is slowly creeping back up there. Enjoy it and don't stress out, that's my advice. :)

  • I had to stop reading the miscarriage posts too. It makes me so nervous for me and so sad too. I keep telling myself that feeling good is a good thing. Why is that so hard for all of us to believe?! haha

  • Miscarriage at this point is very rare. Of course it happens, obviously. But the chance of it happening is less than 1%. For the whole first trimester we held our breath waiting to make it to the 2nd for peace of mind that things were going to be ok... now that you are there you should try to embrace a new calmness.

When I get overwhelmed with the miscarriage posts I sometimes have to force myself to look around and notice all the happy healthy children EVERYWHERE!! Many people have healthy pregnancies that end with healthy babies... no reason it can't be you! Might as well focus on the positive since worrying doesnt really help/stop anything anyway.

  • Christina, Thank you!!! I will try my best today.

Keastman, half hour ago, I went to the restroom and started poking my lower abdonminal. I felt something really hard right by my belly button. HAHHAA...

  • Tigarlily, Thankyou for your positive note and I really needed that!!!! I need to think positive and enjoy my second trimester as much as possible!!!

  • You almost have to assume that everything is fine. What can you do if it isn't? You've read he books and the forums to learn how to take care of yourself and your baby, you're not experiencing symptoms of m/c. Why would you assume something is wrong?

If it's the "pregnancy symptoms" waning, just remember, those are symptoms of hormonal increase taking its toll on your body. It gives you no indication that your baby is okay.

All you can do is take care of yourself and assume everything is fine, until negative symptoms (bleeding, cramping, sharp pains. etc) cause you to think otherwise.

With dopplers you can often miss the heartbeat, causing yourself more unnecessary worry and you don't want to create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Bottom line: Have faith in yourself, take care of yourself and get to know your body. You'll be okay!
