Albrecht Dürer
I happened across an Albrecht Dürer print while looking for an image of a rhinoceros the other day, which reminded me how much I love his art. I grew up seeing copies of his famous praying hands hanging on people’s walls.
But I particularly love his images of plants and animals.
Click and zoom for a closer look.
Durer’s art reminds me that the draughtsman is, foremost, an observer of the world. I love him.

Ranbling throughout Finnish poetry I came across this:
Moonlight.
By the water
Sits a frog, wiping
His glasses on his sleeve.

I don’t know if I’ve read this particular poem, but many others by Risto Rasa.
Here’s a quick translation of one I like:
There’s a hole in the skin of the apple.
If you press it against your ear
and listen carefully,
you can pick out, from the sounds of the water and wind,
the clatter of dishes
a worm washing up.

I love Albrecht Durer. His work is perfection. I never read any poems by Risto Rasa, but the Apple poem i just read made me laugh. How imaginative. Thank you.

I don’t know about perfection, but the art is extremely excellent. The still lifes are amazingly realistic.

I read him as a sort of mean sort of guy, you know, I mean I for surely don’t surely know for sure, but Mr. Albrecht , with all do respect, one of the first instructor of art, whom saw how it all was technically put, and could disect it for those who could not see past general shapes and colours…and I just think it’s cuz he was sort of , … an asshole/. But a chance of him being all sick and all, but yeah..

Albrecht Durer and other masters of the Northern Renaissance have been among my favorite painters for decades. You’ve located and posted truly exceptional reproductions of Durer: ones that surpass those in Google Image results. . . Two years ago, I used Durer’s “Self Potrait at 28” in a collage that I believe you’d like. If you’re curious, let me know how to send/upload it to you. Perhaps you might want to use it as a visual comment.

By all means, upload it and let me know where to find it. I’m curious to see it.

Hello!
On June 10, 2010 I wrote a comment about your beautiful Durer uploads in which I mentioned using Durer’s self-portrait in one of my collages. I hadn’t realized, until just now, that you replied on June 10 expressing curiosity in seeing the collage.
If you’re still curious, the collage is very easy to find. Just Google “Stanton Hager collages” and you’ll get lots of hits for my Picassa and Flickr albums.
I’m glad I re-found your blog.
Cheers,
Stanton
