This is an ancient Greek Temple I made today, with reference to pictures of ruined Doric-order architecture. I haven’t paid much attention to the materials yet, as I’ve just finished building it.
I’m quite happy with it, although I will probably add some corner ornaments to the roof. I think I’ll put it in a scene upon a hill or something.
hmmmm nothing to make constructive comment on… that’s just great work. it would possibly benefit from a more impressive camera position to really show of its grandeur. excellent
That is just excellent, the only thing I can think of adding is that often when I’ve seen pictures of Greek temples, they have a bit of a sculpture of the Olympians in that recess above the entrance. Not sure if that would add to or detract from the model though
That reminds me of the Parthenon, if it is, it needs a small area inside with more stairs like this photo:
And also, you need a relief above the entrance.
Thank you for the advice! It isn’t a reconstruction of any specific building, just a heavily inspired creation. I was indeed thinking about making some sculpted figures to go in the recess under the roof. Another detail I had noticed in photos was symbols carved between each Triglyph (the triple line). I believe these carvings are known as Metopes.
Before making this I had no knowledge of ancient Greek architecture, but this has been a fabulous learning experience. I thoroughly recommend picking a historical era such as this and building something from it.
the inner steps aren’t present on all roman temples. at least, ive been to a few, and none of them had the inner stairs. it also doesn’t have the right number of columns, or a double row, as the pantheon or a similar length to width ratio… thats not to say it’s bad, but Negative’s made a different building is all. greatbuildings is a generally great site for starting research on buildings. there is a great little wireframe plan and section on a lot of the buildings so you can build straight off those…
annoyingly, i can’t remember the term, but the resessed triangle between the roof and the columns… if you can find a very good image of sculpture that would fit in that, you can sculpt a very convincing displacement and apply the image…
