Description

PROCESS OF SELLING CONTROLLED ITEMS
THROUGH A VENDING MACHINE
The invention relates to a method of selling items through vending machines, which provide for the identification of customer's age, and can be used, in particular, for selling tobacco products and alcoholic beverages.
There are various ways of solving the problem of preventing the sale of items that require adequate control and authorization to minors under national law.
One of these ways, which to some extent solves the problem of authorizing the sale of controlled items, is described in the patent US No. 5722526 "Dispensing security system for a vending machine" [1].
According to the indicated technical solution the process of selling items through a vending machine is controlled by a patented system that performs the identification of the customer's age and sends a signal permitting the sale of controlled items to an adult and prohibiting the sale of such items to a minor.
The process of selling items is as follows. The customer selects the interested item and introduces in the receiving device the payment in any authorized form (coins, banknotes, credit cards, etc.), by clicking the appropriate buttons he confirms his selection and introduces into the insertion slot provided for that the document identifying him with the indication of his birth date. The system, by performing a series of transactions with the schedule contained therein, calculates the customer's age. Depending on the age the execution device receives the order to take the money and deliver the item or return the money to the customer.
The disadvantage of the described invention is the uncertainty of identifying the customer, because for identification can be presented a document belonging to another adult.
Moreover, the selling process complicates the need for an additional payment restitution operation, if the authorization for sale is not given.
The closest by the technical essence to the analogous claimed process is the process of selling controlled items through vending machines, described in the application US No. 2004143445 [2].
This process is based on the verification of customer's age who wants to buy the item that refers to the controlled category. According to the given process, the vending machine is locked before entry of permission to sell the item, by means of telecommunication means is carried out the remote visual inspection of the customer's appearance, the obtained customer's appearance image is checked for compliance with the requirements of age with the customer identification control office, which serves at least two vending machines, according to the results of verification is taken the decision of permission or prohibition of the sale, if the customer's appearance meets the requirements of age by the telecommunication means is granted the permission to sell and the customer can do the shopping.
However, the items subjected to control are placed in a special section of the vending machine, which can be accessed through a cage with closed door. Identification of the customer's age is carried out at the entrance into the said cage both by visual research of his appearance and by verification, if necessary, of the document identifying the age. If the customer's age meets the preset requirements the dispatcher of the telecommunication means transmits the order to open the cage door for access to items.
The main disadvantage of this process is its complexity, determined by the complexity of the used design for the realization of the process. The application of this process into practice requires not only considerable financial and material expenses, but also an intensive labor input, conditioned by the execution of the special section and cage.
Even the indication in the claims of the invention to the fact that sharing of costs for supervision of several vending machines makes this control profitable from the economic standpoint is questionable, because the initial costs are high and the used section-cabin can become a barrier for many potential customers in namely the use of these machines for various psychological reasons.
The task, for the solution of which is aimed the claimed invention, is to develop a reliable in operation and relatively simple process of selling through vending machines items that have an age limit, providing by performing a simple operation the authorized access to the proposed items.
The undertaken task is solved by the fact that in the process of selling controlled items through a vending machine by verifying the customer's age, which consists in that the vending machine is locked before obtaining the permission to sell the item, by means of telecommunication means is carried out the remote visual control of customer's appearance, the obtained customer's appearance image is checked for compliance with the age requirements with the customer identification control station, which serves at least two vending machines, depending on the results of verification is taken the decision of permission or prohibition of the sale and if the customer's appearance meets the requirements of age by the telecommunication means is granted the permission to sell and the customer can do the shopping, the vending machine lockout is secured by locking the payment receiving device and initiation of the selling process occurs by connecting the payment receiving device.
The result obtained by the proposed process consists in the simplification and cheapening of the process of selling controlled items through vending machines for the purchase of which are imposed certain age restrictions established by law.
The technical result is achieved in that the payment receiving device lockup, made before commencement of sale of items, excludes any additional operations characteristic for sale through vending machines, after carrying out of which can follow the ban on the sale.
Thus, by means of the technical solution proposed the purchaser, identified visually by telecommunication means, transmitting his/her image to the central control office, as a person entitled to purchase a controlled commodity, easily can do the shopping virtually by one action - introduction of payment into the receiving device.
As a result, it is saved not only the time of the customer, but also the energy consumed by the vending machine for the performance of additional actions.
However, the possible hypothesis of insufficient safety of the visual control of the customer's age refutes the results of studies conducted regularly, according to which the sale to minors of items subjected to control is not due to the inability to visually determine the age, but due to deliberate violation of the established requirements, for example, by the workmen of supermarkets, commercial booths and other trade enterprises.
The visually real control error is within the average error limits: 5-10%, which correlates with errors existing at the use of identity cards.
Moreover, it is precisely the proposed process of selling controlled items through vending machines, many of which can be connected to a central customer identification control station, that best corresponds to the allegation, contained in the prototype, on the reduction of total costs due to their separation for supervision of several vending machines.
The claimed process is realized as follows.
Each vending machine, designed for the authorized sale of items that require the identification of customer's age, by means of telecommunication means is connected to the central station. With the help, for example, of a standard locking device is locked the receiver of payment for items. The image of customer's appearance, which approached the vending machine, is transmitted by telecommunication means to the central station, where the operator who controls the station's activity carries out the visual check of customer's appearance for compliance with the requirements of age.
If the customer's age comprise with the established requirements, the operator will disconnect the locking device, thus initiating the sale process. The customer introduces the payment corresponding to the selected items into the receiving device thereof.
Then, the process continues by the traditional method for automatic sale.
If the operator receives the image of a customer who has not reached the age of majority, he does not unlock the receiver of payment and the purchase of items is not made.
As payment receiving device are usually used devices intended for any payment - from coins, tokens, banknotes to different types of books.
Concrete exemplary embodiment.
According to the development results of this process was made an experiment in which process were carried out all operations provided for by the technical solution claimed.
At a distance of 200 m from each other were installed two branded vending machines "FOODBOX LIFT", production of the Russian company "UNICUM" (www.unicum.ru/catalog item.php?id=35&Ing curent=rus .
As commodity offered for sale were used cigarettes of different manufacturers and low alcoholic drinks such as beer.
On the vending machines were set monitoring means representing the Wi-Fi webcam, model GD-2805 (www.spycams.ru/2-kamera-ip-2905.html). Through the Wi-Fi connection was carried out the communication between the webcams and central control station, virtually equidistant from both machines.
The access to the payment receiving device was blocked by a receiver of securities by the appropriate telecommunication means of the.
The operator of the central control station, receiving the image of the customer who approached the vending machine, has studied his/her appearance as to the age criterion. If the customer was determined as an adult the operator by telecommunication means sent the command to connect the payment receiving device, which corresponds to the beginning of the sale.
The customer purchased the necessary goods from the number offered for sale. The entire selling procedure lasted no longer than one minute.
The reliability of the described selling process was confirmed simultaneously with the monitoring of controlled persons who were near the vending machines. In the process of mass realization of the described process of selling controlled items through vending machines is recommended to use the most modern control and sales devices.
