Abstract

The present invention relates to a system (100) and a method for detecting a loitering event. The system (100) comprises a motion detector (10) for delineating motion pixels or foreground from a background of an image sequence (50); an object detector (20) for detecting a new object in at least one region-of-interest (ROI) (60) from the image sequence (50); and an event detector (30) for detecting the loitering event. In another aspect of the present invention, the method comprises the steps of delineating motion pixels or foreground from a background of an image sequence by means of a motion detector (10), detecting a new object in at least one region-of-interest from the image sequence (50) by means of a object detector (20), and detecting the loitering event by means of an event detector (30).
