Description

A REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD
Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a remote control system and method for mobile (portable) devices which enables all types of mobile operating systems to be managed by a central server and all screens belonging to the mobile operating system to be updated automatically and instantly. Background of the Invention
Today's mobile devices are multiple-purpose devices which offer a wide range of features for both business world and end users. Mobile devices can generally be devices such as PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), smart phone, tablet PC that can connect to Internet; MP3 players, digital cameras are included in class of mobile devices as well. PDAs and smart phones becoming widespread increasingly enable users' e-mails and text messagings and they can also be used for office applications and many applications. Mobile devices are frequently an alternative to desktop computers. Studies done on journeys or in cases away from the office can be matched with desktop systems easily. Mobile operating systems (MOS) are of great importance in carrying out such processes.
Mobile operating systems, like operating systems in computers, indicate a platform on which other programs run. Today, mobile devices use one of different mobile operating systems such as Symbian OS, Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Mobile Linux, MXI etc. Mobile operating system enables existing functions in the mobile device wherein it is used to be fulfilled. For example mobile operating systems are used for applications such as operation of keyboard and pointing device, WAP connection, e-mail and text messagings. In addition, mobile operating systems control what type of add-ins can be installed to mobile devices. Today, mobile operating systems are installed to the ROM memory of mobile devices by being formed for once and no change is made until a new operating system is installed to the ROM memory physically. When it is desired to use a different visual item on any screen of the mobile operating system or a different application (SMS, picture, open browser, play video, calendar, call start, etc.) is desired to be added to these screens, it is needed to connect the mobile device to the computer via a cable or connect to the mobile device over OTAP (Over The Air Provisioning). These type of connections are made in order to overcome an important problem occurring in the mobile operating system or install a new version of the operating system. It is necessary to update the mobile operating system or install new version of the mobile operating system when it is desired to add visual and functional changes to the mobile operating system.
Today, there is no remote control on mobile operating systems. There are no systems which communicate with mobile operating system and provide visual and functional changes on all screens belonging to the mobile operating system by means of an interface without having to update/renew the mobile operating systems. Different techniques are applied in order to make change in interfaces of mobile operating systems however these techniques operate at application level and do not display activity in all screens belonging to the mobile operating system. The techniques which are used at present operate only in the screen showing the desktop of mobile devices. These techniques can not be carried out by means of modules introduced into the mobile operating system, they are realized in the form of applications developed on the "Application Programming Interface (API)" set which is provided by the mobile operating systems. Data received from the server can be displayed only by this display by being interpreted and the mobile operating systems can not access these data. Therefore, these techniques have limited applications. In today's mobile devices, there is an interface that will provide communication with the mobile operating system. Interface changes and application changes can not be made due to the fact that the mobile operating systems can not be controlled over the air (OTA). Therefore, applications that will facilitate users' work can not be presented to the user in an up-to-date way. In addition, notifications desired to be made to the users can not be displayed on screens belonging to the mobile operating system. Warnings about informing can be transmitted to the users by means of channels such as SMS (Short Message Service) and MMS (Multimedia Message Service) but it is not possible for the users to initiate any action in these channels too. The users are limited by a SMS and MMS reading experience which has a quite limited use.

Detailed Description of the Invention
"A Remote Control System and Method" realized to fulfill the objective of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which:
Figure 1 is the schematic block diagram of the remote control system.
Figure 2 is the flowchart of the remote control method.
The parts illustrated in the figures, are individually numbered where the numbers refer to the following: 1. Remote control system
2. Mobile device
3. Mobile operating system
4. Terminal summarizer
5. Main server
6. Transmission medium
100. Remote control method
The remote control system (1) comprises: at least one mobile device (2), at least one mobile operating system (3) which is located in the mobile device (2) and provides control and management of the mobile device (2), at least one terminal summarizer (4) which is installed into the mobile devices (2) and operates in communication with the mobile operating system (3) directly, at least one main server (5) which creates the terminal summarizer (4) and installs it into the mobile device (2) and at least one transmission medium (6) which provides communication between the main server (5) and the terminal summarizer (4) (Figure 1).
The mobile device (2) is any mobile device such as PDA, cell phone, smart phone, tablet PC, etc. The mobile operating system (3) is located in the mobile devices (2) and provides control and management of the mobile devices (2). Implementation of all kinds of activities such as: SMS, picture, browser, video, calendar, organizer, call start, etc. in the mobile devices (2) are provided by means of the mobile operating system (3). In addition, during operation of applications in the mobile devices (2) at the same time, the mobile operating system (3) enables these operations not to coincidence with each other.
The terminal summarizer (4) operates in the mobile device (2) and it is in communication with the mobile operating system (3) directly. Applications in all screens belonging to the mobile operating systems (3) can be updated or changed without making any change in the mobile operating systems (3) by means of the terminal summarizer (4). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the terminal summarizer (4) is installed to the mobile device (2) over the transmission medium (6) by means of the operator (O) who is the main server (5) manager. In another embodiment of the invention, the terminal summarizer (4) is installed to the mobile device (2) by means of operator (O) who is the main server (5) manager via cable connection or wireless systems such as bluetooth, infrared etc. Changes desired to be made in the screens belonging to the mobile operating systems (3) or addition of new applications to these screens are made by means of the terminal summarizer (4). The terminal summarizer (4) can operate with all types of mobile operating systems (3). It is determined by the main server (5) via the terminal summarizer (4) what type of applications will be displayed on which screen of the mobile operating system (3) and with which actions these applications can be matched. The main server (5) reaches the mobile operating system (3) by means of the terminal summarizer (4) in order to create new applications on the screens belonging to the mobile operating system (3). New applications sent from the main server (5) are saved into the file system which is located in the hard disk of the mobile device (2) and wherein the files are organized, by the terminal summarizer (4). When the mobile operating system (3) finds an up-to-date application using the file system in order to find traces of the files, it receives it from the file system. Thus, it is not necessary anymore to install a new mobile operating system (3) into the mobile devices (2) or update the mobile operating system (3). The communication between the terminal summarizer (4) and the main server (5) is carried out over the transmission medium (6).
The transmission medium (6) is a wireless network access medium such as 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS, etc. The remote control method (100), which is used in the remote control system (1) and enables all screens belonging to the mobile operating system (3) to be updated automatically and instantly, consists of the steps of (Figure 2):
creating the terminal summarizer (4) ( 101 ),
installing the terminal summarizer (4) into the mobile device (2) (102), - at the moment that any screen belonging to the mobile operating systems
(3) opens, transmission of information belonging to this screen to the terminal summarizer (4) by means of the mobile operating systems (3) (103),
sending queries by the terminal summarizer (4) to the main server (5) in order to find out whether there is updated data belonging to the screen information (104), stopping the remote control system (1) if there is not updated data (109), if there is updated data transmission of this data to the terminal summarizer (4) by the main server (5) (105),
saving the updated data to the file system by the terminal summarizer (4) (106),
receiving the updated data from the file system by the mobile operating system (3) (107),
displaying the updated data on the screen that it relates to by being read by the mobile operating system (3) (108),
- stopping the remote control system ( 1 ) ( 109).
Operator (O) who is the main server (5) manager creates the terminal summarizer (4) that enables to make changes in the screens belonging to the mobile operating system (3) or new applications to be displayed on these screens and can operate independently of the mobile operating system (3) (101).
The terminal summarizer (4) is installed to the mobile device (2) by means of the operator (O) who is the main server (5) manager via cable connection or wireless systems such as bluetooth, infrared etc. or over the transmission medium (6) (102).
At the moment that the user (K) opens any screen belonging to the mobile operating system (3) in the mobile device (2), information belonging to this screen are transmitted to the terminal summarizer (4) by means of the mobile operating system (3) (103). The screen belonging to the mobile operating system (3) is any type of screen such as desktop, opening, closing, calendar, SMS, phone book, call start, call termination, map, screen saver, etc.; screen information comprises information belonging to visual items such as picture, text, button, video, voice, text box, selection group, etc. present on that screen and information belonging to actions such as open browser, install application, remove application, send SMS, play video, play audio, start vibration, start call, etc. whereby these visual items occur. The mobile operating system (3) transmits information regarding whether there is an item to be displayed on the opening screens and what will be the action about this visual item to the terminal summarizer (4) with which it is directly in communication.
The terminal summarizer (4) sends queries to the main server (5) in order to find out whether there is updated data, belonging to the screen information, which is sent from the mobile operating system (3) (104). Transmission of these queries occurs periodically and duration of these periods is set by the operator (O) while the terminal summarizer (4) is being created. The queries sent by the terminal summarizer (4) to the main server (5) occur by compressed data sets over the transmission medium (6).
If there is an updated data belonging to the queries reaching the main server (5) these data are transmitted to the terminal summarizer (4) by the main server (5) (105). The updated data sent by the main server (5) to the terminal summarizer (4) occur by compressed data sets over the transmission medium (6).
The terminal summarizer (4) converts the updated data that it receives from the main server (5) into a format which will be understood by the mobile operating system (3) and saves it into the file system (106).
The mobile operating system (3) receives the updated data from the file system (107).
The updated data received from the file system is displayed on the screen that it relates to by being read by the mobile operating system (3) (108). The said data may be related to visual items on the screens belonging to the mobile operating system (3) and updating of actions of these visual items and it may comprise announcement and/or application information for the users ( ) as well. The said information may be any announcement information such as information of promotion message number, campaign information, etc. for the users ( ) and any warning information such as billing information, information of internet quota for the users ( ). As soon as an announcement and/or application information of this type reaches the mobile device (2) an information icon arises on the screen belonging to the mobile operating system (3) and the users (K) can access the information transmitted to them by selecting this information icon. The information icon arises on the screen belonging to the mobile operating system (3) to which screen the said announcement and/or application information relates. In addition, the users (K) can initiate an action such as video watching, participating in an online drawing, listen to music, call start and sending SMS automatically by accessing these information. Thus, the users (K) are informed with announcement and/or applications having many more functions than limited applications such as SMS and MMS. The remote control system (1) is stopped until another screen belonging to the mobile operating system (3) is opened by the user after the updated data received from the file system is displayed on the screen that it relates to by being read by the mobile operating system (3) (108). The remote control system (1) is stopped until another screen belonging to the mobile operating system (3) is opened by the user in the event that updated data is not found in the main server (5) after it is controlled whether there is updated data of screen information belonging to the mobile operating system (3) (104) (109). All types of the mobile operating systems (3) can be managed by a main server (5) in the remote control system and method (1). Thus, the users (K) do not need to have their mobile devices (2) installed with a new mobile operating system (3); the mobile operating systems (3) are enabled to be managed without changing hardware and software capabilities of the mobile devices (2). When the terminal summarizer (4) used in the remote control system and method (1) is created it is not necessary to know the hardware and software capabilities of the mobile devices (2). In addition, the main server (5) can install new version of the terminal summarizer (4) into the mobile device (2) or uninstall the terminal summarizer (4) that s/he installed previously from the mobile device (2).
It is possible to develop a wide variety of embodiments of the inventive "A Remote Control System and Method". The invention cannot be limited to the examples described herein and it is essentially according to the claims.
